All I Really Need to Know About Business I Learned From Stone Soup

Stone Soup has the answers to all problems arising in business today.

Some people have learned things in Kindergarten, but I learned everything from one small, inspiring story: Stone Soup. In that heart-warming story, I learned all I need to know about life and business, but it did take a little while for the lessons to bubble up.

These are the things I learned:

  • Share what you have
  • Work hard and people will gather to help you
  • New people have fresh outlooks on what you are involved with. Listen to them.
  • Don't believe everything you think someone else smells
  • Little bitty things you do matter a lot to the group
  • Listen to the person who has the vision
  • A good campfire grounds you
  • If you have magic, share it, don't sell it
  • Anything, even an unremarkable stone, can hold magic
  • Trust that it will turn out alright
  • Help others see beyond themselves
  • Without a leader, there are no goals
  • One goal makes a team
  • Even if no one understands what you're doing, do it anyway, if it feels like the right thing to do
  • Intend to do things. Hold the intention to get something done first, then do it.
  • One person can change the environment

Businesses are complex, when you agree to believe it. The truth is, everything you need to know about businesses, working with other people, encouraging people to grow, and making a top notch business is all there in the Soup! The lessons from the Soup are all about building teamwork and doing the right thing for you, the people around you, customers, the environment, and you can take all that good-will straight to the bank.
