Looking for Work in Customer Service

A positive approach in looking for customer service work.

Want to do customer service?I get the feeling that choices are few especially when you are going to a job agency that sees you as being more of a collections person and less of a sales person. It is important to remain positive at the work place, Customer service personnel have to adapt to new situations as they arise, from a crank call to one from someone on a bike trip wanting to know about auto rental insurance. A hands on approach is the best especially when the prospective employer trains you for problem situations that are most likely to occur.

At a credit card intermediate company, one had to manage several different types of calls in a reasonable amount of time while being pleasant on the phone. One had to receive calls from account holders wanting their account balance or other account information and they had to forwarded to their issuing bank. One had to deal with a variety of customer complaints regarding anything from a minimum charge that the merchant would expect of you, were you to make a purchase to people irate about their tardy bank service.Lastly one had to be able to report lost, stolen, misplaced or damaged cards. One also had to be able to fill out a report if the person required

emergency funds especially if he was eligible for that. One had to be prepared for the card holder wanting to know if he had a particular coverage on his card which would cover anything from a damaged article that was purchased to knowing if he had medical insurance to cover him on a flight trip. Then as a customer service representative one has to be able to tell the difference between the types of incoming calls, give some information addressing the issue and forward the client to the right office. Proper phone manners and speech was especially important and would often win the customer's approval even if he was not able to get his problem solved.
