Setting Realistic Business, Career, and Talent Goals

Start your business, career, or talent by setting realistic goals.

In business, career or talent, people must learn how to set "realistic goals."

We certainly need the fantastic dreamers for the fantastic dreams and many of our greatest business are founded by fantastic dreamers and many of our finest careerists and talents are the fantastic, those with the "great ideas." We need these great talents, nevertheless along with these fantastic dreams, these great ideas, we must have the realistic goals, the realistic work schedules, and the practical work ethic.

What do you want to accomplish in business, career, or talent? Are you a self-motivated independent workers or do you need to work with others? If you need to work with others who are your support system of those genuinely supportive of your business, career, or talent. What are the realistic goals that they contribute?

Let's say you want to start a business. What type of company do you want? Is this your real interest? What are realistic, specific goals? Suppose you have very little money? Vending machines, miniatures, affiliate marketing, an instant company online. These types of companies help you to set realistic goals for your first business effort.

Set realistic goals of profit, affordable advertising. And you must have work that produces guaranteed revenue.

Many people get discouraged because they set grand goals that they find impossible to realize. This does not mean these goals are unrealizable, but often this is a problem for those in business, career or talent. Set the realistic goals first, accomplish those while leading to the grand goals. You must perfect the realistic goals, which contribute to the practical realization of the grand goals.

Suppose you want to start a publishing company. You don't have the funds for a large publishing company. Publish your first several book under your company imprint at Lulu Press. Revise, revise, and revise these books until you perfect them. Advertise. Start a publishing fund to help you realize the larger publishing company. Or you can think you have already started your publishing company via Lulu Press and continue to write new titles. You can also commission new talent.

Learning to read? What is possible?

Get a dictionary. Learn a few words everyday. Read and reread a page a day, a few paragraphs. Circle the words you don't know. Learn their meanings. Use them in a sentence. Set reading goals. Read and reread. You can also read aloud. You can include exercises in reading. Many reading exercises can be found online.

This is the same goal-setting necessary when learning how to write. Write and rewrite the same page. Study vocabulary. Read and reread the best writers you know. You don't have to imitate these writers, but what do you learn from them. Integrate some of their writing strategies into your writing.

Want to be a published author? Find several websites that publish your works. Submit to these websites. Self-publish these articles. Submit to commercial presses. Set the small realistic goals. Keep writing and keep perfecting your writing talent.

Want to be an actor? Very few become the great and famous movie stars or actors, as many do not confuse actor and movie stars, although these roles might be similar. What is a realistic goal for you to pursue acting? You can go to the places where the great actors are discovered, but this is not necessarily a realistic goal.

You don't just wait to be discovered, or try to make friends with some famous star, although you might ask a famous star how that actor got into the movie business or how they got on stage.

First you must have a talent for acting. You must have that ability. Acting ability can be natural, taught or self-taught. Find an acting teacher or acting coach. If you can't afford an acting teacher or coach, there are teach yourself acting books that you should purchase. Join an online acting forum, start your own acting troupe, write your own plays.

What are realistic goals for you in your endeavor in business, career or talent? As you accomplish the realistic goals, try to get these to lead to your grand goals.

You have to make sure that you truly have an interest and truly have this talent. Keep pursuing these practical and realistic goals.

Make sure that you have goal-oriented tasks that generate revenue to help sustain your efforts while pursuing the great goals.

Keep a goals-oriented journal. Keep your focus, and continued to set realistic goals that led to your grand goals.

You must also work in an environment that helps to sustain your realistic and grand goals. These must also be constructive goals, where constructive goals are necessary and meaningful.

If you know others that have goals and they want you to work with them, you might accept assignments of these realistic and practical goals in which you are an expert. You must make an assessment of whether this is a project that you can be supportive of, whether business, talent or career.

For example, if a person is interested in publishing, then you can offer to edit if you are an excellent editor. You can edit for hire and/or for a percentage of sales. Others can agree to be supportive by becoming customers of the publishing company, and agreeing to purchase the books that interest them. Others can commission publications.
