4 Surprising Yet Practical Ways to Keep Your Job

Getting a job is one big hurdle. If you have crossed it, you would agree that keeping it is no mere product of chance.

Join me as I bring to the limelight four seemingly trivial, yet important, skills and qualities that will help you keep your job.

  1. Communicate Effectively

Good communication skills are highly prized in virtually all business organizations today and it goes beyond having a good vocabulary. What you say and the manner in which it is said indicates whether or not you have the ability to communicate effectively. You could be skillful technically, but if you lack effective communicative abilities your skills might not be appreciated.

Sometimes, effective communication is achieved with only but a few words. To avoid misunderstanding or mistakes that could cost you your job, it is important you pay close attention to what your employer or sometimes your colleagues are saying. Heretofore, when communicating verbally ensure you speak in a clear concise manner and with the right volume and the right way. Make considerable effort to constantly sharpen communication abilities as this quality will increase your prospect of keeping your job.
  2. Work Well with Others

No doubt your workplace consists of familiar faces with different abilities and sometimes amusing behaviors. As a result, you might be tempted occasionally to gossip about some of your co workers. True not all gossip are harmful and frankly it may not be feasible to avoid it totally but, if you allow this to be a habit then you could be wasting a lot of valuable time and eventually gain a reputation as a busybody in other people's affair. Do not be deceived no organization appreciates a busybody. This habit undoubted will affect your working relationship with your colleagues.

Therefore, rather than spending time on aimless gossip, endeavor to use your time for hard work. Be willing to go an extra mile when asked to perform a particular task. If you are known as a hard worker this reputation will likely help you keep your job.
  3. Be Honest

Most employers would agree that honesty is particularly a desirable quality. Honest employees not only do not steal money or other material goods of the company but also do not a steal time. The latter implies that work hours are used for its intended purpose and not for chit chatting with fellow colleagues or other personal purposes. Furthermore, an honest worker would resume punctually and regularly for work. If you are honest no employer would want to lose you.
  4. Be Realistic

Since most countries of the world today are economically unstable, it would be unrealistic to assume that the suggestions mentioned earlier would guarantee success in keeping your job. This world is full of uncertainties as a result of this you could still lose your job no matter how hard you try. Should this occur being realistic will help you to cope. Finally, do not despair. Many have had success applying these suggestions. You could be one of them too. Strive to do your very best to keep your job.
