Are You Stuck in a Dead End Job?

Think you aren't going anywhere in your career? check this out to see if it is time to hit the road!

Many people complain about their current careers. It is a popular topic at the local pub, online and even at the water-cooler of the despised job. Unfortunately many people do not realize that this career is going nowhere. If you are feeling like this then here are some signs to look out for so you can move on.

THE BOSS DOESN'T REMEMBER YOUR NAME

This one should be a no-brainer, but yes-if your boss can't keep you straight from the other coworkers then you might as well be anonymous in his book.

YOU'RE A PRODUCER WITH NO PROMOTIONS

Are you constantly exceeding your performance standards and still are passed over for that promotion? Then you are most definitely stuck. Assuming there are no other factors in your employee file like excessive tardiness or behavior violations then you should already be on that top seat and if not you aren't headed in that direction. Business is funny, sometimes an employee is passed over in favor of the owner's nephew or some such nonsense but usually a producer will stay in their current position because they are doing just that-PRODUCING. The company doesn't want to lose their cash cow.

YOU HAVE REACHED THE LIMIT OF SUCCESS

In some cases the workplace doesn't offer anywhere else to go. There are those who thrive in this type of environment. If you are the type who needs more challenges to be happy then you are in need of a new career.

THE COMPANY IS ON SHAKY GROUND

If you are in a high-risk field or the company you work for is in trouble you might want to bail out now. Simple as that. (Enron, anyone?)

If going to work everyday takes everything you've got then look out for some of these signals. A fresh start can be scary but at least you won't have to keep hitting that snooze button while you decide if today should be a sick day.
