Bloody Business

If you feel queasy seeing blood, then these jobs are not for you.

Take a moment to appreciate the people who have the following jobs. I am merely point out the jobs that most fainthearted people like me, would not be able to do. We rarely think about how good we have it, but without these amazing individuals, our world will be less pleasant.

Surgeons

If you are uncomfortable seeing blood, then this job is out! You wouldn’t want to pass out while opening people up. Surgeons deal with a whole lot of blood all day long to save people.

Meat Cutters

These people are the ones that bring meat to our dinner table. The job they do we can barely imagine leave alone doing the actual chores. I enjoy an occasional steak, but the process of how the meat got into my hands, skipped my mind totally.

During deer season in Michigan Upper Peninsula, I often saw deer hung upside down, and felt very queasy as I drove pass the site.

Undertakers/Morticians

My mind usually takes me on a wild ride when it comes to the funeral home. I’m not afraid of death, but I am just a bit wary around dead body. I would not be able to handle a dead body or do the job of a mortician.

Medical Examiners

Autopsy report requires medical examiner, and this job involves an extensive hand on with the deceased. Unlike surgical doctors who deal with live patient, medical examiners deal with cold dead body. They both perform the same task of cutting, opening the body, but their purpose is totally different.

Blood Specialists

The blood specialists must handle bags of blood. They make sure the blood is safe and the type of blood is correct. They help saves lives, and without these people what will we do?

These are the jobs that constantly dealing with blood. If you are a fainthearted, you can’t be in this business. I am sure there are other jobs that work with blood also, but these are on the top of my list.

I am not queasy around blood but I wouldn\'t want any of those jobs you mentioned. I have great respect for doctors and nurses but I would be sick myself having to see so many people mangled and in pain. It\'s wonderful that we have people who are willing to do these jobs.

I'd hate those jobs. The meat cutter would be the worst I think.

great article! there are so many jobs out there that require a high level of tolerance, not to mention a strong stomach!

I could never do those types of jobs. At my old work, I worked at a Deli tending to the fruits/vegies and register. They always cut their meat and made their sausages in the morning. It actually isn't that bad.

I work with blood a bit in the deli. Opening rare roast beef or cooking chicken. Nice article!

Also, people who have to attend car accidents (Police Fire Service, Paramedics), although a picture of a car crash would not go well in an article.

Icy, you are so right. None of these jobs would work well for me. Good point.

Oooooo! Not for me either, the only time I can cope with it is when I have too. Interesting article.

Icy,
I'd Have to agree with everybody else. I know I wouldn't be able to handle any of these either, and I worked in a hospital for nine years when I lived in Union City, a border town on the Indiana/Ohio state line. Thank god I worked in housekeeping and maintenance!
Great article! I had a cousin who went to college to be a doctor. The first time he saw blood, He decided being a journalist was a far better choice. Keep up the good work Icy. This' pretty good stuff. Randy

I'm glad that other people have chosen to do these jobs because if the world was depending on me to do any one of them, it would be sadly dissapointed.

As for me dealing with blood is fine, but unfortunately I'm not in this field. If I've such an opportunity, I'll choose the first one as it can save many people. Great post anyway, thank you Icy. Take care!

I am grossed out by blood and guts and I definitely can't cut up 'bambi'...
But it's always good to know our options because some people can do that sort of work.
Thanks Icy

Great article, Icy! I'd enjoy being a surgeon but forget the animal rendering or vampire... And being a medical examiner?...absolutely NOT, I don't even like touching a dead person!

I'm with you, Icy. I pass out having my blood drawn for a screening. I was also the one left back at my grandparents' house with Grandma while the rest of my family and relatives went out deer hunting every fall in northwestern Wisconsin. I like the taste of venison, though. I'm glad someone is willing to do these jobs. Thanks for reminding us to be thankful for them.
