Kiss Hershey Goodbye?

The Hershey Company recently announced it's relocation of some of its business to Mexico. Is this the moral thing to do?

According to recently released news, the Hershey Company, manufacturer of The Great American Candy Bar, is closing down its Reading, PA plant thereby causing the loss of approximately 260 American jobs. The company will relocate part of its corporation to Mexico. What was once the manufacturer of the Great American Candy Bar will now be the proud maker of the Great Mexican Candy Bar!

According to some sources, the Hershey's Kiss and Reese's Pieces will be made in Mexico. The company purportedly will cut about 1,500 jobs over the next three years. It's high time we Americans put our money where our mouth is instead of stuffing it with Hershey's Kisses, and support companies who make their goods and goodies in the good old USA.

Made in America was always something that we Americans could be proud of. We knew it stood for quality and we knew that hard working Americans were earning a living wage. Yes, big companies have always made obscene profits but by Hershey moving a lot of its corporation to Mexico, their profits will be even more obscene. Meantime the American worker is left to try to find another job, try to find another way to put food on his table, while the big corporations grow fatter and fatter.

The biggest way to protest this gross insult to the people who have helped the Hershey Company become as big as they are, is obviously to boycott their products. All of their products. Hershey Corporation is not the only chocolate manufacturer. We don't have to do without our chocolate but we can certainly do without Hershey's chocolate.

We also have to be aware of other products affiliated with the Hershey Company such as Cadbury, York, Peter Paul, and Almond Joy. If we stop buying these products too, this will have an effect on the Hershey Company.

Another way to protest this exodus of our jobs is to contact our Congressmen and Congresswomen and protest the new stamp that was just designated honoring the Hershey Company. While this won't affect Hershey's profits, it will be a slap in the face to them if the stamp is recalled. It is a legitimate, nonviolent way to protest and to let fat cat corporations know that we're mad as hell and we're not going to take it anymore.

There is an added plus to boycotting the Hershey Company too, just as long as we don't substitute one chocolate company for another, and that is if we stop purchasing so much chocolate, we'll be healthier too.

It's time for all Americans to support each other and not let the high paid CEOs of these megacorporations continue to make their enormous salaries off of the American workers' backs.

To these companies and the obscenely paid CEOs and Presidents and their shareholders, I would like to invoke the well known contemptuous statement by Marie Antoinette - Let them eat cake! Because hopefully there won't be any Hershey's Kisses…not until they close down their new Mexican plants and reopen in the USA…the country that made them who they are.
