Five Qualities a Leader Should Possess

Are you fit to be a leader?

Loyalty

No matter what type of leadership role the person is taking, loyalty is an important quality that a leader should have. It is important that the leader put the interest of the organization as the top priority. But in the real world, not many can do this. And that is the reason why there are corruptions and embezzlements. If the leader is loyal to the organization, he would never have done things that can hurt the organization. When a leader can be selfless and put the organization before his self-interest, the organization will definitely benefit under his leadership.

Integrity

A leader will need to possess integrity. Mutual trust between the leader and his subordinates can be built, only when the leader himself is honest and trustworthy. Trust is just like lubricants in a machine. With lubricants the machine can run smoothly and perform at its optimum level; with trust, an organization can complete tasks more efficiently. Integrity leads to mutual trust and that is why it is another important quality that a leader should possess.

Benevolence

In the past, benevolence is simply to reward the subordinates generously so as to gain support. In today's context, benevolence is more than that. A benevolent leader now has to be able to work with his subordinate as a team; without showing his superiority as a leader. Through this, the subordinates will respect the leader more and will be more willing to share ideas. A benevolent leader will often give second chances to people who commit a mistake. Sometimes forgiveness and second chances work better to motivate the rest of the team than to punish the offender immediately. And that makes benevolence an important factor to motivate others and gain respect.

Wisdom

Wisdom is important for the leader to differentiate right from wrong. And only with that the leader can do things that are most beneficial to the organization. He will then be able to identify errors and correct it. With wisdom, the leader will also possess foresight and vision. The leader will then have a goal or target and guide the organization towards it. Without wisdom, the leader will be blind, and what is more dangerous than to let a blind man guides the organization? Thus, wisdom is definitely necessary.

Courage

Knowing what to do is not all, a leader must be bold enough to do it. Courage is needed to bear responsibilities. The responsibilities of taking care of a whole organization are great and sometimes overbearing. It takes extreme courage to lead. If someone tells you that being a leader is easy then he may be someone who is irresponsible and perhaps lacks integrity. A true leader understands all his responsibilities and possesses the courage to assume all the responsibilities. Wisdom lets the leader know what to do next and courage makes the leader do it.

The qualities are not ranked in accordance to importance. Without any of this, the leader will not be complete. Without loyalty, the leader's motivation is suspicious. Without integrity, there won't be mutual trust between him and his subordinates. Without benevolence, the respect for him won't last. Without wisdom, he may not be able to guide his crews to greater heights. And without courage, he may not dare to take actions and the organization won't progress.
