Matt Hughes is the 9-time and current World Welterweight Champion of the UFC. Matt often remembers being "volunteered" by his father to help family friends on their farms and still recalls his dad driving home the principle that you never take advantage of someone else's misfortune. Growing up working on his and family friends' farms brought the work ethic that Matt is known for.
While learning about Matt I found out that he starts the day with a 30-60 minute run. He says that this is just a good way to start the day and does not even count in his cardio. He then is known for his work in the weight room. He often lifts for three hours at a time before sparring. When he spars he will spar with someone for five minutes and then with no break he will go to a fresh person for another five minutes and so on until he has gone through 5-7 fresh people before he takes a break and does it again.
He says that the one thing that he learned on the farm is that you can not reap benefits without first sowing the seed and this is why he works so hard. Now Matt is getting ready to take on another fighter that wants his title and all the while he is helping with youth in his hometown.
Matt is a great example of what great work ethic can lead to. He is a great leader in and out of the ring and keeps his priorities straight. This could be defined as a huge heart or exceptional ambition but either way he is someone I would like to be more like in the future.
