Not Publishing on Schedule
If you advertised the newsletter as being weekly or monthly, you’d better stick to that publishing schedule. Nothing says unprofessional more than making your subscribers wait and wonder when they will be getting the next newsletter. Make sure you can follow your plan on when to publish before you offer the newsletter.
Nothing Special – Boring Content
When someone signs up for a newsletter, they are looking for some information that they can’t get anywhere else. If you offer the same tired facts that they can find anywhere else, they will not stick around long. Also, you should not simply point their attention to other’s content or even content on your own site.
No Personal Interaction
Creating a personal relationship with your newsletter subscribers is important to establish trust. Write about your experiences in the newsletter, or have a question and answer section where subscribers can write in. Being personal is a great way to build loyalty.
Sending an Advertising Board
People want content and information from a newsletter. Of course, you will want to advertise to them – that is okay. However, you can not send a newsletter that is nothing but advertisements. People can get that type of spam in their email every day. Make your advertisements unobstrusive.
