At the International Funk Ausstellung (IFA) in Berlin last year, Philips already revealed that the company was working on textile that could be used as a screen. This year at the IFA, Philips’s employees will carry so called Lumalive-coats. The prototypes of last year have been changed and improved and are now ready for production.
The photonic textiles are processed in these coats, consists of a matrix in which luminous semiconductors are interweaved. These LED’s are manufactured in a way so that the flexibility and tenderness of the textile isn’t affected. And might a coat necessarily need to be washed; it won’t be a single problem at all. Batteries and electronics can be easily removed, just as the luminous layer. Philips thinks that especially the advertising and marketing business will have interest in their innovative product.
