From Neutrality Into Involvement

The United States sought to guarantee it’s neutrality at the beginning of WWII, because of the “Great depression” that resulted after WWI. The United States lost money as the stock market crashed. Also when veterans came home and took the jobs of the current employers.

The United States wanted to maintain neutrality but President Roosevelt knew that the Axis powers would eventually want to attack the U.S. As a result the Unites States took few steps to prepare. For example the U.S. passed the Lend and Lease act that gave the president permission to aid nations in the war. Also the United States’ congress also gave 50-old destroyers to Britain in return for naval base control.

The U.S. was in depression, but could not ignore that the nations were in war. The U.S moved toward involvement in WWII.
