How Innovation Creates Opportunity

When it comes to business, we have all heard the phrase “expand or die”. Well these days, a proper and more accurate battle cry for entrepreneurs would be, “innovate or die”.

Changes are happening at a rapid pace in the world of business today and if we don't rethink our business strategies, our enterprise will surly be crushed by our competitors. If you are not innovating, you are losing customers. Creativity has become more important than “bigger and better”.

But the journey of innovation is not easy. It requires a huge depot of talent and creative thinking, as well as a lot of time and patience. To be innovators, we have to listen to what the people are asking for. It requires intensive research and data collection. Money is another important element for research which is the harbinger of innovation. Companies have to spend hundreds of thousands, sometimes millions of dollars on an idea.

Breakthroughs for new products will not come without listening to what your customers are saying. There has to be a dialogue going on between you and your customers. You will have to go deep into your analytics and your business reports and compare the performing and the non-performing aspects of the business.

Surveys have to be carried out and marketing split tests have to be done to make sure you are introducing a unique product to the world.

It's human nature to desire something that is new, something that is unique. Provide that uniqueness to the people and they will flock to you. Observe which problem is in need of a solution and provide it. Bring in talent if you have to create that solution. It will be a worthwhile investment.

We live in an age of technology, where things are changing constantly. Everyday, something new comes out and people forget about the previous "hot new thing" which is not so hot anymore. Case in point; MySpace and Facebook. When Facebook was launched, MySpace did not seem so unique anymore.

The internet, as well, has given a new meaning to the word innovation. It has created a platform for innovation. Once, when one had to invest large sum of money to find out what the market was in need of, now he or she can gather lots of useful information by performing some online research and the costs are not prohibitive either.

The process of innovation is difficult and even risky, but if the results of this process are successful, then you will have an edge over and be the envy of your competitors. Like they say; "Nothing ventured, nothing gained".

Discover a Unique Business Working with Children

Do you enjoy working with children and have some knowledge of hairstyling? If so, you may be a natural fit for this unique business niche which focuses on giving children a great haircut in a fun and entertaining environment.

If you choose to start this business, you would have the exciting task of providing high quality haircuts to children between the ages of one and twelve. Haircuts would be given in an environment designed specifically for children. The child would be surrounded by child themed posters and decor and music children can relate to would play in the background.

How about offering children's movies on a screen in the waiting room? The waiting room would be designed with children in mind and would include comfortable bean bag chairs along with a variety of toys and children's books within easy access. Hairdressers running behind? Not a problem! The children would have plenty of fun distractions to keep them occupied. When the children get impatient, the receptionist could serve a quick round of lemonade and cookies to keep the young guests entertained while they wait. The staff would be hired both on their haircutting abilities as well as their ability to relate to children. An appreciation and understanding of the the younger set would be a necessary job requirement. The staff would know how to talk to the children and encourage them to cooperate during their haircut. At the completion of the haircut, each child would receive a lollipop or a small toy as a gift from the staff.

A fun, add-on service to consider would be child photography. Who wouldn't want to have a cute photo of their child and her new haircut? You could also offer a line of children's jewelry at the checkout counter as an impulse purchase. In place of the usual adult oriented shampoos and conditioners, you could carry a "no tears" line just for children. The high end market for shampoo and conditioners is relatively undeserved and would likely be quite popular. You could also develop and private label your own line of children's shampoos and conditioners to carry in the store.

There are a variety of ways to market this unique business. Post fliers and give out business cards at local schools, day care centers, toy stores, pediatrician offices, and other locations where children congregate. Be sure to offer gift certificates and a reward card which offers a free haircut with the purchase of a set number of cuts.. You could also offer a discount to local schools in your area and give discounts for referrals of new clients.

Location of your new children's hair business would be important. It would be ideal to be located in a high traffic strip mall area in close proximity to a school or day care center. You could consider doing a co-marketing promotion with a nearby day care center to the mutual benefit of both businesses.

Does this fun business sound like a good fit for your entrepreneurial skills? In the right location, this unique business should have excellent money making potential.
