As they are paid only for time-on-task, owner can hire numerous VA's in discrete locations and have 24x7 supports if required -- paying far fewer than what a permanent or temporary worker would charge for such inclusive support.

Getting Paid to Drive Your Own Car

Especially with the price of oil and therefore gas at the pumps, seeming to have an infinite ceiling, anything that might reduce our cost of motoring must surely be welcome. Right?

Well, I guess the honest answer is a cautious “maybe”, even if the first, reactive answer was a resounding YES!

The ultimate in cost reduction wouldn't be the title of this brief article; it's actually getting to drive a free car! I can hear you asking “How?” already. If you live in the US, Canada and the UK particularly, it's not too hard to find companies who are willing to pay to qualified applicants. Even France and Spain also have a number, and it's growing too in Australia.

Why do they pay? Simple. They pay you to carry advertisements on your car, or the free one they give you. I should state at this point that the actual chances of qualifying to be given a free car covered in an advert are pretty slim. You'd need to live in a major city, with a spotlessly clean driving record, drive at least 25,000 miles a year, preferably double that, and be prepared to park your somewhere at night where it is still going to be secure, but widely seen. You must wash it at least weekly, have it maintained to the manufacturer's specs and avoid accidents at all costs! Actually the maintenance is usually paid by the sponsor and all you have to pay is the gas, insurance and road tax. In some countries you may have to pay an advertising license too, although the sponsors are more likely to pay.

Far more though, will qualify for schemes which pay you to drive your own car, also of course, carrying an advert. With most schemes, you don't get to choose which ad can now adorn your car, but you can refuse one which you don't like. However, doing that will put you back in the queue again, for these are very popular schemes.

I've seen ads by some very well known names, such as:

Yahoo!

Sony

Toshiba

ABC

HBO

IBM

Tic-Tac mints and so on

Smaller local companies also take advantage of this form of mobile advertising

Naturally, the more your car is wrapped in the ad, even almost 100% (except the windscreen and most of the rest of the windows), the more you'll be paid. Living in a major city, such as Los Angeles, Toronto, London, Paris or Madrid, will push up your pay too (New York is a no-no unfortunately, as mobile advertising is banned in NYC). Schemes vary enormously, but of the companies I am prepared to promote as affiliate partners on my website (see below), have sponsors who will pay anything from around $400 per month up to as much as $3,000 or slightly more. These very high payers are few and far between, but who among us would turn down $4-500 pm as extra income? I know I wouldn't.

As I've commented in the article “Internet and Affiliate Marketing”, also on this site, you should be very wary, however, of spending any money, no matter how small, before you're as satisfied as you can be as to the honesty and integrity of the web sites offering this type of deal. You should know that it is not the advertisers or even the advertising agencies themselves who offer to you directly, but third party service providers, not all of whom, sad to say, are genuine.

On my website, I've only agreed to join affiliate partners from whom you can confirm that sponsors do exist in, or close to where you live. Too many sites want you to pay first, and only then will they provide you with the directory of sponsors. Don't touch these sites with a barge pole.

If this is something that interests you, and you live in a country where the schemes are available, then by all means give it a try. If you have concerns, I invite you to email me through my web sites given below, and I'll try to help. However, if you're ready to try the scheme, perhaps using one of the companies who are my affiliate partner, I'd really like to hear how you got on. Good luck, and I hope you and your bank manager will be very happy.

Don't Get Another Loan: Great Home Business Ideas

It can seem an easy way out to stick more on your credit card or get another loan, but that's only ever a short term solution. Taking time to build a little business could not only eventually clear your debts, but give you immense satisfaction too.

Try not to be nervous about putting yourself out there - people are always interested in new enterprises and with good customer service you will find yourself well-liked and your efforts appreciated. After all, you're helping to build the local economy.

Here are some big and small ideas which are designed to appeal to various tastes. Remember active marketing is essential; no one is going to come to you just because you've decided to start-up.

Party planning is used to sell a variety of products - think Ann Summers, Avon and Body Shop. You run parties in clients' homes and earn commission on sales. Read up and research before you choose your product - you can never know enough about your market and keeping up with the latest selling techniques is essential.

Rent out your land or driveway for car parking or storage in busy areas. Act as an agent for others wanting to do the same. Never stand still on customer service; concentrate on what you have to offer existing customers and what could you be offering them that you aren't right now.

Constantly refer back to your existing customers. Send a letter or email and pay attention to their response. Call to monitor their level of satisfaction. Consider what you could do to improve the benefits they receive from choosing your product or service. Could you make exclusive offers? Could your customers refer you to others? Do you link up with other companies so their experience is improved and they stay loyal?

Great artist or know someone who is? Publish a humorous/satirical/cartoon magazine, starting off by selling in pubs and other social venues, and online. Having links back to your site is a great way of driving traffic.

If you have a social conscience set up a commission or fee fundraising agency to help local and national charities. Start up cash flow will be the secret to your continued survival; any new business will survive for a short while without sales, but without cash it will fail.

Start small with a mobile car wash/valeting round locally, and find new customers by employing others. Where can you advertise your fledgling business? Some options may not be as expensive as you think. Constant, long term repetition of your message is the key to getting publicity.

Use your local knowledge to set up as a guide for castles/monuments/your town(on foot or even a vintage vehicle/bus). Increasingly businesses use the internet to help market their products and services - an online booking facility could work wonders for ticket sales. Get entries in online tourist directories to encourage people to try you out.

If you love animals set up a pet/house sitting agency, and operate a dog walking round. By starting small you have the flexibility and ability to react quickly to situations that larger businesses may not have, and offer more competitive prices, so you can snap up the opportunities they miss.

When times are hard it's could be more financially worthwhile to offer your skills in return for services from others. Consider a job swap agency - there are a growing number of websites you can join, or set up your own agency in your area. Contact the press locally for some free publicity for this novel idea.

The Customer: Necessary Evil or the Second Coming?

All hail the mighty customer! She demands to be served, and now. She's not interested in the fact that your paperwork's not up to date and she definitely doesn't care that you're up to your elbows in stuff another client has requested and already paid for! Damn straight, she's a potential new customer and if she doesn't get what she wants tout de suite, she's outta there and the vultures are already swirling, waiting to pick up the business you were prepared to let get away.

Listen, you're in business to earn a living. Each and every potential customer has what you're looking for … moolah! The minute you see them on the horizon, the instant they're visible from where you are, you owe it to yourself and your business to do all you can to reel them in. Ok, your paperwork can't really wait, but the tough love view is that you should have completed it in plenty of time to free yourself up for what you do best, whether that be designing websites, washing cars or arranging flowers.

Just like babies, customers have a few fundamental needs:

They want service

They want your attention

They want to feel welcome and special

As the business owner, it's your responsibility to ensure those needs are met, whether personally or by delegating to staff. And it's up to you to promote the company's customer service principles.

No one likes to feel she's a nuisance. Haven't you walked into a store and found the assistant on the phone or engaged in gossip with a fellow worker? You might as well be invisible, despite your throat-clearing and feet-shuffling. Have you ever had a cashier roll her eyes when you've asked for an extra bag for your potatoes? Were you aghast when the waitress at the restaurant scraped all the plates onto one right there at your table? For that kind of service, you could have stayed at home!

Customers really don't expect to be treated like the Messiah at the Last Supper. You don't have to froth and bubble all over them, offer insincere compliments, gush about their cute child, or make unrealistic promises.

What you do need to do is welcome them, make them feel like their business is appreciated, listen, offer recommendations and solutions and provide an inviting environment that encourages their return.

Teen clothing retailers provide free lollipops at their counter and play music that fosters a party atmosphere. Considering the demographic, it's totally logical that their stores are constantly brimming with activity, with teens and early twenty-somethings "feeling the beat", giggling and having the time of their lives shopping!

Banks and building societies have cottoned on to the idea that many people who shop for home loans have full time jobs and can't afford to spend an hour or two locked away in a bank manager's office. Voilà! Send the Lending Manager to visit them at home. After all, that's where all their documents are, and it's a comfortable environment in which to assess family needs, and not to be watching the clock to hurry back to work.

Even home and online businesses can develop an "environment" conducive to keeping the customer's needs met. Sure, you may be a work at home mother, and yes, your kids are very important to you. However, you must project yourself as professionally as possible so that the customer feels like they're your top priority. Endeavour to accept and make calls at times when your toddler is napping or at day care. Snatch pockets of time when you can follow up on enquiries in peace. Behave as much as possible as though you do work in someone else's office. Your workspace should reflect a professional attitude. It should be clean, uncluttered, and organised. It's vital that you meet deadlines, behave cheerfully and in a businesslike manner, and be welcoming to each existing and potential client.

Ultimately, without customers at all, your business doesn't exist. And unless they're cared for and respected, your business won't succeed.

Window Washing: Instant Business, Big Money

The beauty of a window washing business is that if you suddenly find yourself jobless, you can launch this business instantly for $50 or less. It is not glamorous, but it will help pay the bills. You can also start this as a part-time business and keep it that way, or expand.

Getting Equipped

Head for Lowe's or Tru Value.

Recommended equipment are a couple of squeegees with flexible rubber blades, one a 6-incher, the other an 18-incher. You need a wooden pole to attach the squeegees to; you might keep an eye out for a telescoping aluminum pole. You need a brush, a bucket, other items you can probably get at home like a sponge, rags, plastic scouring pads which won't scratch glass. You also need a cleaning solution. Ask around for recommendations; do some Google searching. Vinegar is a workable option. See what your supplier offere in the way of window cleaners. Talk to the clerk. A chamois can be used to blot excess water at the bottom or sides of the window. An extendable ladder can be useful, even if you target only businesses and homes with ground-floor windows.

You also need invoices and a notebook to track your accounts. A T-shirt or uniform shirt with your business name, function ("window washers"), and phone number should go on your wish list.

Again, this can run about $50, depending on how much you find around the house and what you put off to add later.

Practice

Try out your window-washing technique on your windows at home, on grandma's windows, your neighbors. You need to see what angle to use your squeegee to get the proper effect. Use the squeegee mounted on the pole.

Remember to wet down the window and dampen the squeegee blade with a sponge before wiping for the best effect. If the blade regularly leaves a streak, you may want to replace it at your earliest opportunity. Don't make yourself miserable.

Remember that these days there are some special window coatings which require you to use soft towels or cloth rather than brushes which might scratch the surface.

Getting Business

Practice should only take a few hours and you can start trying to line up customers. Your problem will be that someone is already offering the service but there may be room for someone new who is actively looking for new customers who've become available since your competition made his rounds.

You can start in your neighborhood with residential homes. You can also begin hitting local businesses, especially if you know there is no competition out there yet.

Figure on $5.00 or so for a couple standard storefront windows facing the street. Add or subtract slightly based on size or difficulty. You should be pulling in $20-$25 an hour.

Business Cards

Business cards are an early expense. You really can't put this off. Try Vista.com for 250 free business cards with just a postage and handling charge. I've gotten some nice cards from them. You can design your own, with artwork, colors, everything formatted by you.

Distribute them everywhere you go.

Write up an article announcing your business for the local papers. Do a feature using the soft-sell approach and offer window-cleaning tips while casually dropping your own name as a "professional window washer" somewhere in the article. A hard-sell will only get your masterpiece rebuffed as a blatant attempt to get free advertising. If you can't write, it's worth it to find someone who can, even if you need to contact a journalism instructor at the high school or college and hire someone. Other article ideas may occur to you in time. Be sure to capitalize on them.

In addition, you may offer a few business clients free window-washing in exchange for posting a sign in their window with a plug for your window washing service and your phone number.

Once established with money coming in, get an ad in the phone book.

Take your business on the road so you can hit nearby small towns where you'll least likely find competition. Line up regular clients for weekly window-cleaning visits. Work a different town each day. In no time, between private residences and businesses, you can have quite a going business dropping money in your lap.

In time, as your client list continues to grow, you may even decide to hire help at minimum wage or perhaps better and convert this to a sideline business you can oversee while pursuing another opportunity.

Is Network Marketing for Everyone?

I'm a true believer that we are all responsible for our own lives, our relationships, careers, the car we drive, the size of our bank accounts and homes, the people we keep around us. Everybody has different definitions of success and that's fine. Maybe some people even like working a day job, paycheck to paycheck. I'm sick and tired of it. Seeing the Hummers, Range Rovers, Corvettes and Z4's, that's my definition of success. Living in Malibu, having my own recording studio, taking my friends out to dinner, going on vacations is what I like to do when I want to without checking my bank account. Doing what I want when I want to is my goal. Spending quality time with my loved ones is my definition of a great life.

Just as there are a million different ways to get to Rome, there are a million different ways to become financially free.

I have always been interested in MLM and Network Marketing and always run into people who like to tell me, it's a pyramid scheme, only the people on the top make the money and whatever else those “nay Sayers” like to throw out there to justify their failures and doubts. I don't really listen much to peoples opinions, because most of these people will also tell you that life is unfair and you have to work hard to earn a living; when you mention financial freedom, they'll go “what's that?” That's something that was designed for the rich…well; I don't need to continue on because these are the people who are poison to those who want to advance. They mean well, I'm sure.

I realized that most of these people are broke. They don't take risks, they play small, and they are victims to circumstances. They blame and complain. When they run into an opportunity, they see someone else trying to get them for their money. Why is that?

We were taught to have a job, to go to work, provide, take one week vacation a year and probably sit around the house, fixing the roof, because money is tight and that's the way it is. Great life isn't it? Not so much.

What's my point? I've known so many people like those. My family. I am pretty open minded; I've tried a few MLMs. Yes, I just “tried” I didn't do it. I didn't follow through with it. I failed miserably quite a few times. It didn't work for me. One day I sat down and took a real good look at what I'm actually doing and why I am where I am. And boom. It hit me. I didn't care about the product. I wanted to make money. Yesterday! Fast! Now! My heart wasn't in it. I am a musician, what am I doing selling life insurance?

I enrolled my friends, people who are just like me. I surrounded myself with people just like me, broke, frustrated and skeptical, looking for the quick fix. I took a break and gently asked the universe to give me a sign. A new opportunity. I opened my e-mail and a guy I met a while back at the Millionaire Mind Intensive send me an e-mail saying “call me” with his number. My “programs” (old beliefs) told me, it's not you, another thing you'll fail at, don't do that again, you're not good at this. Just a waste of money and time. Great story isn't it? What did that story do for me in the past?

Let's see? It got me nowhere. I'm exactly where I was a year ago. My friend who got me into one of the MLM companies is doing fantastic. I could've been there, but I am not. And that's okay. The product wasn't resonating with me. I decided to be open minded and approach it through a different pair of lenses.

I realized, all the times before I always thought about one thing and one thing only. Money! I need to make money, not in a year, now! I didn't really like the product, but I thought I could Sell It. Yet I didn't.

I checked out the new opportunity and really liked everything about it. I decided to not try but do it this time around. Here's something that made all the difference.

I didn't approach any of the people I've approached in the past

I found something I'm truly passionate about

I'm being about helping others first and see the money as an extra bonus

I challenge myself to do things different

I am following a system a plan

I'm going one step at a time instead of trying to skip a few trying to race to the top

I think a lot of times we stop ourselves because we don't see how it is possible for us. It seems too big, too complicated, and too scary. Yes, only when we are uncomfortable is when we are growing. I dare you too, to do something different.
