Top 10 Job Search Engines

Care.com

This site features house keeping , baby sitting , tutoring , pet care, and senior care jobs. You begin by describing your experience, desired pay, distance willing to travel, duties you are willing to perform, hours available for work, education, and languages spoken. You can also upload a photo of yourself and record a video personal message. Then, you wait for your information to be processed. Once processed, applicants can view all jobs listed and what the details of pay, hours needed, etc are. You can email the employer to let them know you are interested. Employers can also view your profile and contact you directly. You can get job updates via cell phone, land line phone, or email. What is great about this site is that it cuts a lot of wasted time down. All the information given and requested takes the guess work out of knowing if need matches demand.

Snagajob.com

This site features paid hourly jobs. It does have an email alert service for new job postings. There is a simple zip code search and ability to refine search by location, company, or distance. You must register to use the site. The downside is that the site sends you to online degree sites often. At first, it looks just like a job application and you don't realize that it isn't until the very bottom of the fairly long page. Once you have filled out the page and get to the bottom, you will find a “decline this offer” button. But, by then it is too late. You have wasted your time filling out the form. The site also does not have salary jobs.

Rigzone

This site features oil field jobs. It has an easy to navigate search engine, that breaks the jobs down into specific categories. Categories include: drilling, engineer petroleum, engineer maintenance, geosciences, etc.. Once in the specific category, you search the sub category jobs and find one that you are interested in. Rigzone will give you the details of the job, application deadline, and link to apply for the job directly through the company. What is great about this site is that it is international. It list jobs in every country of the world and is easy to navigate. A bi monthly new job alert is available via email.

Career Builder

This site has multiple job listings and many search options. You can search by industry, salary, location, title, key words, en Espanol , international, job category, etc… You can also refine your search by omitting key words, titles, etc.. Downside is salaries may or may not be listed and details of some jobs are not fully explained. What is great is that you can upload resumes and send directly to the employer, without typing it in every time. Also, the site has a fax option that you can use for a small charge. Some jobs list contact information that you can contact the employer via phone.

EmploymentGuide.com

This site features three easy steps: complete application, upload resume, and send . You can browse by employer or state and then refine search by keyword, specific local, distance, job category, etc. What is great about this site is that when you click on a specific job, the site also lists alternative locations for the job. It has a direct email option, if employer opts to use that feature. It has very detailed job descriptions, but most do not include specific salary info.

Monster

Search options work similar to Career Builder. However, the upload resume and create account is a rather long process. In the long run it saves you time by not having to type the same information over and over. Often when you click on apply for a job, the site sends you to specific question pages that you must fill out to apply for the job- some are short, but some are long questionnaires. The site also has a networking tool.

Indeed

Truly a one stop shopping experience. You can browse by all the categories that Monster and Career Builder have. You can sign up for email alerts. What sets this site apart is it's mass listing. Indeed collects all the job listings from most of the web sites- gov employment sites, newspapers, job agencies, etc.. and comprehensively list's them. The downside is that you are redirected to the host web site for each job. From there, you have to register for the host site, fill out application, & upload resume for that particular site. There is not an upload resume feature on Indeed. You can get job alerts and save searched jobs for latter redirection.

Nurse.com

This site features RN jobs only. You can browse by region, specialty, or state. However, the job listings are limited. Very few jobs are listed by smaller hospitals, nursing homes, etc. You must register before you can even search the data base. What is great is the site has a listing of travel nursing and contract jobs.

Dice

This site features technology and engineering jobs only. You can refine searches by commute, location, skill, job title, employment type, and required travel. The summaries are very detailed. Most job postings have salary info or at least a salary range. You can copy and paste resumes on the Dice web site or use the provided link to go directly to the employer web site. There is a job rating system (positive, neutral, or negative) in place that allows you see what others think about the particular job. The site allows you to save your resume, receive email alerts, and save job searches. There is also a tech forum for registered users.

Americas Job Bank

This site is run by the US Dept of Labor. First, you click on the state you wish to search for a job in. Each states' web site will be a little different, but they will all be the site that the local employment office uses to list jobs. For example, I am from Mississippi. So, I will click on Mississippi. The site will redirect me to MDES- the Mississippi job bank. From there, I can choose job seeker services, unemployment services, or labor market info. The job seeker services features an index of job search, federal jobs, state jobs, newspaper classifieds, job fairs, college employment, veteran services, and a host of training/education options. Once I choose an option, it can be redefined by city and job title. Most all of these jobs require an apply online. You must be registered to apply for jobs. There is an option to upload resume.

These should get any job hunter started. There are hundreds of job search engines. If you have a specific field that you are searching for employment in, it may be better to go to a site that has narrower listings. This will save time sifting through jobs that you know you don't want. However, if you have a broader field or are looking for a more general employment opportunity, the broader search engines might be best.

How to Write a Resume

Why won't anyone hire me?

Ever ask yourself that question, or why can't I get a better job than the one I have now? The trick is what you put into your resume, how you present it and how well you introduce yourself to the potential employer. Employers want to know not only what you can do for them and how you will contribute to them, they also want to know YOU , what do you do in your community? Are in involved with a charity or other great cause? What are your hobbies? What do you like to do and where do you plan on going in your life?

I have a few tips that might make your resume stand out a little more.

Write down on paper everything you have ever done in chronological order (the most recent to the oldest), if you are recent high school grad put things down that you did in high school for example: Baseball (started 2nd base/relief pitcher), or President of Future Business Leaders of America Club (sophomore thru senior year). Even if you do not have work experience employers will still read your resume.

Go on the web and research everything you can about the company you want to work for. This will help you with the determining your goals of working with that company. Write down specific details (Year Company was developed, how many employees they have, education requirements, etc). This will also help you in the interview should they call you.

Always type your resume, use spell check and be very neat and orderly, employers want to see that you can organized no only physically but mentally. Put some thought and neatness into your resume. Also be short and to the point, managers do not have a lot of time nor do most have tolerance for spelling errors or sloppy work. Remember the more time they spend on your resume the better it will be for you.

Use the following format for jobs you apply for (in most cases this works):

Full Name: In left hand corner 1 inch from the top of paper (8 ½ x 11 and always white)

Address: Full complete home address and mailing address

Telephone Number: With area code

Cell Phone Number: With Area Code

Email Address: As Many As You Use

Objective: What do you want to do for this company and where you would like to go. Employers want to know what you goals are. Don't be afraid to tell them, most people are changing jobs about every five years now to better themselves so companies like honesty.

Education: Name of High school, College, Trade Schools and when you completed them (month and year), always put in chronological order (most recent first).

Experience: What work experience you have put here (in chronological order most recent first). If you do not have any work experience put down things you did in School, Volunteer work, etc. Remember employers want to know you not just what you can do for them.

Awards: Put any and all awards you have received, employers want to see what you have accomplished. This will let them know that you are not afraid to think outside the box and are willing to do what it takes to get the job done. Have proof with you when you go to the interview.

References: Always put on demand (Use people you have know for awhile (2 years or more and let them know or ask them if they will give you a good reference. Have their phone number and email address handy when you go to the interview.

If you fill out an application for the job you are applying for use your resume to fill in the blanks and attach your resume to the application. Your resume will cover areas that the application will not in most cases.

Take you time, put some thought into it and you will have success.

15 Tips to Help Your Career

If you want to get ahead in your career and in your life, you need to start small and look at the immediate things you can do to help out your situation. If you're sitting out there at your desk, tiredly wondering if there's something better that you can be doing with your life, start with these fifteen tips that you can start executing immediately that will lead you down a path towards a better career.

Make a List

Make a list of all of the things you did today/this week/this month to help your organization, and file them away. Whenever you have a few spare moments, make a list of all of the things you are actually doing at work. Date them and provide specific examples. When you've made this list, drop it in a folder and let it sit there until your next performance review - or the next time you ask for a raise or a promotion. I do this regularly, which has allowed me to build up extensive positive documentation about my career.

Send A Thank-You Note

If you've recently been assisted in your career or personal development by someone, spend a few moments and send that person a handwritten thank you note. The respect, kindness, and personal touch of a handwritten thank you creates an indelible positive mark in your favor in the recipient's mind, which can do nothing but help you out in the long run.

Work On Your Writing Skills

For me, The Simple Dollar is actually an active part of improving my own writing. Starting a blog related to a work-related topic that interests you is a good way to practice your skills. Don't be lazy with it, though; focus on writing strong material that will engage others, because without it, you're not really improving your skills at all, merely regurgitating facts.

Design Some Classy Business Cards For Yourself

I have a small pile of business cards that are just for me (actually, they're for The Simple Dollar), not for any firm I represent or work for or anything else. I drop these regularly, as envelope enclosures and in face-to-face opportunities. These cards are a reflection of me and what I wish to represent to people, and by getting quality ones, I create a positive impression on the recipients. Don't go for the office store perforated ones, either; get them professionally done and in a high quality.

Send a Quick Contact Email

Got any professional contacts that you haven't touched base with recently? Send them an email letting them know what you're up to - and ask them what they're up to. By this, I don't mean clients - I mean professional acquaintances in the same field as you (contacting clients should be a regular part of your workflow). A quick email to the people you met at conferences last year can be a very good thing, as you never know if they might have a great opportunity available that could really help you out.

Suggest A Solution to a Particular Workplace Problem

This is especially true for smaller things, not necessarily big enterprise-wide issues. Are people always complaining about the printers? Spec out an additional printer and ship a proposal for a new printer by your boss. Workplace tensions between two people? Figure out how to most discreetly move them far apart from each other, write it up, and ship it off. The key is to make the solution as complete as possible, so that the boss can tell you saw a problem, looked into how to solve it, and came up with a solution on your own.

Pick Up The Phone and Make a Call

Keep in touch with what's going on in the organization as a whole so you can be more informed when meetings occur. Pick up the phone and give someone else a call to see what you can learn, or take a stroll through different parts of the workplace to find out what others are up to. Don't make a nuisance of yourself, but be aware of what is going on, how it can affect you, and how you might be able to leverage that to get ahead.

Work On Your Language Skills

Are you a non-native speaker of the language in your workplace? Spend your spare time working on the finer points. I find that listening to audiobooks and podcasts is an incredible way to pick up on the nuances of a language given that you already know the basics. If you don't know the basics, seek out some audio courses on that language and get started. For myself, I've found that a great way to pick up a foreign language is to read a translation of a work I'm already very familiar with, such as Harry Potter.

Make Yourself More Presentable

It always helps to have a clean, fresh impression. I keep a few hygiene products in my traveling bag at all times: underarm deodorant, toothpaste, a toothbrush, some mouthwash, some facial cleanser, a comb, and some cologne. I make sure to clean myself up at least once a day, and often twice a day, when I have a few free moments. That way, I look freshly scrubbed at the 3:30 PM meeting - and having just washed my face vigorously, I feel more awake.

Polish Your Resume

There's never a bad time to give your resume a bit of a touch up. Make sure it has plenty of action words and documents specific results that you've produced. In fact, your personal work documentation is a great way to look for ideas to spiff up your resume.

Read About Important Topics

Read something on topics you plan to be facing in the future in your career. Don't waste your time reading Paris Hilton (unless you work for People magazine or something); instead, find resources that are related to your job and focus on those. If you spend your spare time at work browsing the web, at least spend that time browsing items that can potentially further your career.

Prepare Some Comments

Prepare some comments in advance for your next meeting
Got a meeting later? Instead of dreading it, look at it as an opportunity to shine. Look at what the meeting agenda is and prepare some notes and thoughts that you can present during them. If you're going to sit through someone's presentation, find out what it's going to be about and do some preparatory legwork in advance so you can ask a few astute questions.

Work on Your Public Speaking Skills

This seems like it would be difficult to do right now, but it's not. Merely listen to the work of great public speakers on the internet, burn yourself a CD or two of speeches that really inspire you, then play them in your car on the way home and practice speaking along with them. You'll learn a great deal about how to enunciate words to get your points across and influence others.

Clean Your Work Area

Not only will this create a better impression of you in the eyes of others, you may also come across important materials that you thought were missing or lost. It's also good to start (or enhance) a document filing system when you do this, so you can quickly find materials.

Figure Out Where You Want To Be In Five Years

Figure out where you want to be in five years - and create a plan for getting there. Spend some time visualizing where you want to be, then think about what it's going to take to get there. From there, keep breaking down each piece in the process until the pieces are things you can do quickly - and start doing them. Every mountain climb is just a series of steps, after all.

Business Report

Business report for Mario's chocolate-making business

Executive Summary

Mario's chocolate business has been operating in Australia for 25 years with a sense of good reputation in managing its local workforce. However, domestic labour costs have increased recently and overseas demand have experienced an increase. Thus, the business has considered an international expansion as its solution. This report will evaluate two employment relations strategies as well as recommend one staffing system.

Discussion, Interpretation, Analysis

Due to higher domestic labour costs as well as higher demand overseas, an international expansion is seen as an effective solution.

The business should consider foreign direct investment (acquisition strategy) as its method of international expansion, which means that the business acquires another business, through a takeover or merger, a business already operating in a foreign country. This will provide the business with direct control over foreign facilities, the business is in a better position to monitor and adapt to changes in the foreign country's business environment, as production is produced overseas, hence reducing transportation cost and might also provide the business with transfer pricing if the business invest in a business operating in a developing country, hence reducing taxation. Additionally it will make the transfer of technology, products, labour, intellectual property easier.

However, investing in a developing country might reduce costs, but on the other hand provides greater political risks. Moreover, the parent business is more influenced by the economic conditions overseas and might as well experience political, social, cultural and language barriers. In addition, profits must be shared and the business is more drawn to currency fluctuations. The business need to hedge risk against currency fluctuations, since the currency depreciates, it might lead to high costs; which happen in 1980s in Australia where most Australians borrowed from Swiss, but later the A$ depreciates against the Swiss Franc, resulting in a rapid increase in total repayments. Thus the business might protect itself from currency fluctuations, by hedging. But this option as well provides high risk, since in 2000 Energex Technologies Ltd. collapsed due to inappropriate use of derivatives to hedge itself against changes in oil prices.

Nevertheless, international expansion means change. Most employees resist change and might act as “luddites” (actively sabotaging the new change or process), which might be very costly, if the business does not implement effective employment relations strategies.

Thus, first the business should change its hierarchical management structure towards a behavioural management structure. Current industry trends indicate that the behavioural management structure is more beneficial. The behavioural management theory, realizes that meeting employee's social needs will increase productivity, as proven by the “Hawthorne-effect” as well as by the case study of Richard Branson; the CEO and founder of the Virgin Group. His employees are given responsibility and empowered to make decisions; as a result revenue reached $20 billion in 2006.

This will reduce the business cost, hence higher sales, profits and market share. Moreover, this theory also applies a flatter management structure.

Since employees are more skilled knower days, hence a shorter chain of command would be appropriate; hence reducing the business's costs. The behaviorual theory also implements a team work structure as well; research has shown that this will increase productivity, self esteem and self management. However, an international expansion incorporates a multicultural workforce, hence a team work structure will assist employees in dealing with and preventing from racial discrimination issues. This will not only lead to reduced workplace problems and thus reduced productivity, but as well reduces the cost of appointing a grievance committee. Additionally, it will prevent the business from breaching the Anti-discrimination Act 1997 (NSW) and thus preventing the business from having a negative publicity and thus loss of its good reputation in managing its workforce effectively. However, the business should be aware that it is difficult to interpret an individual's behaviour, thus it is difficult to determine what motivates the employees. Additionally, positive results might not be seen immediately.

Furthermore, the business should provide additional intrinsic as well as extrinsic rewards in order to remove inertia of change and increase motivation of employees in achieving the business's objectives. Nevertheless, the business could also link rewards with performance, such as profit and productivity sharing, employee share and bonus plans, etc, which would increase employees' motivation as well as encouraging employees to expand internationally, since it provides greater return and benefits for them as well. But the business need to recognize worker's efforts and implement as equitable reward system; that is seen as fair and deserved by employees.

Moreover, the business should also provide training and development programs to its employees, such as by job rotation, enlargement and enrichment, which will give employees an “insurance” of skills when they are being made redundant, more responsibility and challenges in their job; hence reducing resistance to change. Training improves employee's skills, productivity an attitude, improving its as well as the business's performance. Development enhances the employee's skills, which leads to promotional opportunities in the long term, hence reducing resistance to change as well as increasing employee's motivation and commitment towards achieving the business's goal.

Furthermore, the business should as well implement effective communication systems, such as grievance procedures, joint consultative committees and team work. Due to applying grievance procedures, hence employees are able to communicate their problems and concerns, while on the other hand employers are able to reprimand staff for conducting unsatisfactory work. Due to this two-way communication system, a better work relationship occurs, while reducing conflicts and legal costs and consequences and thus prevents the damage of its reputation in managing its workforce effectively.

The business also needs to measure the effectiveness of its employment relations strategies, by having employment relations audits, quantitative as well as qualitative measures. For example measuring change in cost of its employment relations per sales, gross profit per employee, growth in market share, changes in productivity and quality of output, number or grievance records, etc; in order to determine whether the business already has implemented strategies that effectively manages the change or whether its strategies need to be evaluated and modified.

Recommendation

Finding suitable local workforce is difficult and time consuming, especially for managerial positions. Additionally, the business should get advice from the Department of Foreign Trade and Affairs about the local customs and behaviour of its target country. Some countries prefer family or tribal relationships, rather than technical qualifications, when choosing its employees; breaching it would lead to staffing problems and reduced productivity in the long term. Moreover, the business should start an international expansion as soon as possible, as there is growth in demand and labour costs. If customers wait too long, they might shift its demand for the business's competitors and a continuous increase in labour costs might lead to higher priced products, which might reduce demand, as well as increase the risk of bankruptcy.

Thus, the business should first apply a ethnocentric staffing system, in which all key management positions are filled by the parent company's personnel. After the the foreign operation has been established, hence the business could slowly shift to a polycentric approach, where personnel from the host country manage its subsidiaries while personnel from the parent's country manage its head quarters. Nevertheless, the business needs to maintain some of its expatriates as well as sending a group of specialists to assist the local workforce to deal with problems and assisting them in establishing the foreign operation. After, they are trained to run and maintain the facility, hence the business can apply a geocentric approach, in which it selects the best people for key jobs throughout the entire organization, regardless of what nationality, since this will provide benefits, due to providing the business with innovative ideas, a workforce that has different language skills as well as a workforce that appreciate cultural differences.

How to Find the Perfect Apartment!

Number one:

Decide at home, before making the first phone call, exactly what you want. First, what is your price range? As a general rule of thumb, your rent should not exceed 1/3rd of your total gross income. Secondly, what is the time frame within which you need to move? Availability is a big factor in the pricing and even in the quality of service you will receive from the leasing agent. May through August is the major season for moving, and if you can move off season you will find a larger selection of apartments at reduced prices or with move-in specials.

Number Two:

Decide what features are must-haves, and which are preferences. Beware carpet, as it is one of the most common reasons that security deposits are not returned, and require extra care from the renter. Now that you have a rough paper draft of what you are looking for, begin looking at the ads. Apartment guides and news papers ads are worth skimming, but realize that the apartment complexes offering the big glossy ad’s are never going to be the best deal. Private owner properties almost always have lower rents, less fees, and less restrictive policies. They can also be less responsive when it comes to maintenance requests, so when you become interested in an apartment try to research the management company as well.
Craigslist
is an excellent place to search for an apartment, as well as simply driving around your desired neighborhood looking for ‘for rent’ signs.

When touring the apartment, make sure you ask:

What are the lease terms? Ask for a disclosure of all fees and deposits. Make sure you understand exactly what utilities you will be responsible for, and if laundry is in unit, in building, or down the street. Ask about policies regarding pets and children as they pertain to you. Ask their policy for lease breakage and maintenance. Emergency maintenance is also a nice feature. Not all leasing agents have the power to negotiate, but a lot of them do, so it may be worth your time to act less than impressed (But never be rude or overly critical) to see if you draw the offer of a concession or a waived fee from the agent in an attempt to close the deal.

Once in the apartment, make sure to check:

The number and location of outlets and phone jacks. Always check water pressure of both the shower and the toilet flush. I had an apartment once that was almost perfect except for the tiny little spray of dribble I had to shower in for a year. Open cabinets and drawers, look in the oven. It doesn’t even hurt to knock on walls to test their thickness. If in an urban location, make sure to ask where the closest hospital is—landing on an ambulance route can make for an apartment nightmare. If the apartment seems to be the closest to the specifications you made out on paper before hand, Step away from the leasing consultant to consult with your moral support (if available). Never make the decision without leaving the presence of the leasing agent for a brief period, the power of sales people on even savvy consumers can be quite persuasive. If it is go, return to the leasing consultant and ask if there is a time period of refundability on the deposit required to take the apartment off of the market. Most places offer this. If the deposit is refundable within a certain period of time, put it down immediately. While the deposit is still refundable, it is time to do the last leg of your research. 1. If you are paying for utilities, call the utilities companies and ask for an average bill.

IMPORTANT:

Make sure you know how long the unit has been vacant. Aside from the sales advantage of knowing that a unit has been on the market for a while (it means that you are in a good position to negotiate if that is an option) you really need this information to make sure the numbers quoted to you by the utility company are accurate. More than one renter has moved in on the promise of low utility bills, only to find out that those numbers came from when the apartment was vacant and unused. This is another good reason, if utilities are not included, to check the age of the windows and heating and cooling systems, and to factor in the height of your ceilings.

If you originally viewed your apartment building in the day, make sure you drive by at night. Conversely if you toured your apartment in the evening, make sure you drive by during the day. I once rented an apartment that looked perfectly safe at night, only to find out that during the day people sat out on there stoops all day and drank alcohol.

If the deposit is immediately non-refundable, I recommend doing this research before putting down money, unless you are hunting in a very competitive housing market.
If everything pans out, ask if you can get a better deal. We are often raised that this is not polite, but often times there are specials or discounts available if requested, and if not, you are not the worse off for asking. Welcome Home!

Real Estate Appraiser Helper

Every day in the real estate appraisal industry someone asks us to compromise our integrity by breaking or bending the law, no matter how small infraction this may be. It is being done quite frequently as mortgage companies and loan officers pressure and use scare tactics to get what they want.

Why do they get away with doing this? They have the power to influence the situation or circumstances favorably in their direction as they are ultimately responsible for the amount of business you receive as they are a paying client and could affect your financial status negatively.

But what if they were not your client and you didn't depend on them? What a perfect world that would be…right! No more loan officers stressing you out, reduce call volume, and lessen the stressful pressure. Also you would no longer have to comprise your integrity. In turn you could run a legitimate appraisal company whose main purpose should be to maintain public trust.

Taking it Back

It is my suggestion that we take back control of the Real Estate Appraisal industry now why the market is slow and could be at its weakest point. This would entail the elimination of pre determination's of value or as we like to call them “comps checks” which by the way are against USPAP guidelines, However getting all the Appraiser's to follow the rules may be a little bit of a stretch imagination as this industry has a lot of professional criminals .

How do we take control of the Appraisal Industry? We have to police ourselves as Appraiser's and make sure that were not compromising overall standards and USPAP guidelines, then we have to change our client relationships from Lender -Appraiser Relationships to Appraiser-Home Owner relationships, and this is how we do that.

We have to lower appraisal prices to more reasonable rates to attract more home owners as clients; the theory behind this would basically be to start monthly membership plans for every home owner in your immediate area. Think about how many homes are located in your immediate area? That's right a lot!

Memberships

How you market the membership programs are up to you, whether you knock door to door, advertise through internet, fliers, mailers, commercials or start a sales team it's up to you. All I know is if you build a large client data base of memberships and are collecting memberships fees every month your no longer dependent upon Lender's or Mortgage companies for income and are free to practice Real Estate Appraising with your integrity intact while maintain high levels of public trust.

Membership programs have so many good qualities to them, think about it! No tacking on additional miles while you struggle though traffic to get to your next appointment which is located 2 counties away, No more comp checks, no more stressful phone calls from Lender's or Mortgage companies pressuring you into doing something unethical, no more waiting for the orders to come in every month and no more having to worry about a bubble bursting (it has already happen).

Hopefully I helped shed some light on a way to make money in the Real Estate Appraisal industry without being dependent upon lenders, mortgage companies, or current market conditions. They just don't matter and they should not are many negative aspects are intertwined into each one. So make yourself responsible for the amount of work you do and keep your standards intact.

Businesses You Can Start

As a business woman that has been self employed for 14 years and has done some of the many jobs listed below with great success. I also know others that have made their living doing the other jobs I have had listed. I want to share all this information with you so you can find something you do well or love to do and turn it into a business of your own.

Being your own boss gives you control over your time, money, and a lot of perks. Wouldn’t you love to pick your own hours? Be able to work around your kids’ schedule so you don’t have to pay a babysitter or so you can attend school functions? Not have to answer to a boss and be able to stay home if you are sick or the weather is bad? Best of all make as much as you want while still being able to write off things like your vehicle, computer, supplies, and much more.

There are many businesses out there that promise to make you tons of money but they want you to invest in their parent company and then you are expected to sell their products or get others to invest in their business. In the end you do all the work and if your lucky enough to sell whatever your cut is minimal, not the tons they claim.

So this is a way for you to be in the money, do something you like, and control your time. So Read on and I am sure you will find something that catches your eye and makes you say, “ I can do that and make money?!”

I will try to give you as much info for each business that I can and the rest is up to you!

One word of advise before you start reading though,
Don’t be afraid, jump in with both feet, give it one hundred and ten percent, don’t back down, think positive, and most of all don’t give up, you can do it!

To start any business I first suggest you take at least a business start up class at a local community college. Here you will learn how to set up books, to register and get a state business license, what you can use for income tax write offs, and other things needed to start your endeavor. There are more classes for small businesses offered but this is the most important I feel. If you don’t want to do the school thing you can get books from the Small business division in your state. They are listed in the government section under State, then under Small Business. Call and ask them to send you a packet that explains the how to’s of starting a business in your state. They can also tell you how to get low interest loans to start up if you need help. In this info you will also learn how to set up your business as a self proprietor, a limited liability co., or others.

I also suggest that you find an accountant to work with so you don’t write off things you can’t and miss things you can write off. You can pay them to do all your books or you can do them yourself and have them check them quarterly or at the end of the year have them do your taxes for you so they get done right. Income tax is so much more complicated when a business is involved so this is important. And remember this is a tax write-off in itself.

Also once you get started make up some cheap business cards that you should leave everywhere you go and put on every bulletin board you see. Also flyers are a great way to get the word out in certain areas you want to work. Say you have two jobs in close proximity and want more, flood that area around with them for better exposure. You can always put a small ad in a local paper or service type paper. Another good place for some jobs is at the local senior centers, they are always looking for help in many areas. Make sure to tell everyone you know about this new thing you are doing and again hand out those cards everywhere!

Remember the more business you get the more you will make. Your goal is to get to a point where you can or have to say I am totally booked with the time I have to give. Make sure you don’t let your business take over your life. Set boundaries such as devoting this much time a week to this business and stick to it or it can and will take you over. You can always expand by hiring people to help but keep an eye on them, don’t lose control of your business. Make sure people working for you represent your company in a positive way.

Some of these businesses are ones you can start that take a minimum amount of investment. Others may take bit more but you should be able to make enough to pay your start up investment off in the first year.

A Lawn Mowing Business

Not just for kids anymore! This business takes a minimum amount of investment, especially if you already own some equipment or if the people you contract with have equipment you can use. One thing I do suggest though, is if you take on very many yards invest in a self-propelled mower. If you want it get into it deeper you can buy a rider mower and do large yards, fields, or sometimes you can even contract with parks. In the fell depending on where you live, you can make a killing cleaning up leaves and cleaning out flowerbeds And let me tell you this is a good work out job! No extra working out is needed.

Bare amount needed is a mower, trimmer, and blower. To move this equipment you can use a van, truck, or small trailer. All equipment, vehicle, and gas used is a tax deduction.

There are many people that need this service. The elderly, people who work full time, and realtors that need to have property maintained.

You charge per yard and a minimum for your area is easy to find by contacting a couple of other companies and asking their prices. Put out flyers, let yourself be known at senior centers, advertise in the Thrifty Nickel.(Good money, good exercise)

Yard Grooming Service

This is a great job for people who love to garden and weed. You can do this business with or without mowing. The equipment is extremely minimal. Small rakes, shovels, hoes, and gloves. This is a great job if you live in areas where grass is not found. I have some friends living in Arizona around a retirement community where they clean yards that have rocks, cactus, etc. They make a killing because these people all want their yard to be the best looking!

There are many people out there that either can’t, don’t have time, or hate yard work but want beautiful yards.

You can charge per job or per hour that is something to work out yourself or with your client. Flood areas with flyers. Contact senior centers, put ads in papers, pass out
cards and flyers, and check with Realtors.

Trimming Bushes and Trees

Most people have no idea or refuse to trim bushes, grasses and trees. If this is something you do well you can make a bunch of money because people who can’t trim but like their shrubs groomed are willing to PAY to make them look good. This business takes hardly nothing to start up. Trimmers (hand or electric), some tarps, and trash bags.

Make and put out flyers on homes with shrubs especially unruly ones and wait for the calls.

This is a business you can make a lot at if you are good at what you do! (My husband does this and can name his price)

Housekeeping

Do you love to clean and are good at it? This is the right job for you! There are millions of people that hate to clean and are willing to pay well to have someone else do it. This is a job that you can bring your own supplies to, let the client provide them, or a combination of the two.

You can offer a variety of services(windows, deep cleaning, laundry, etc.) or be a basic cleaner. Just remember the more you do the more the pay. You can offer an hourly rate and have set pricing for extras.

I would recommend to get bonded for this type of job not only for your own welfare but also it helps your client to feel comfortable having you in their home. Bonding is something you can find out how to get done through your state and works like insurance. It assures the client that you are not going to steal from them. Again contact senior centers, advertise, and put out flyers.(can be interesting/ good money)

Painting

Are you good at painting walls and not messy? Do you have a knack for doing all the new and exciting wall techniques? Can you free paint murals or stencil well? Then this is the right ob for you. Many people can’t paint well, hate it, or don’t know how. This is where you come in!

For this job it is better to bring all your own equipment because it is easier to paint with things you are used to. It is also a good idea to bring along some samples of different types of techniques and pictures of places you have painted. See if you can advertise at paint stores, and
all the above mentioned ideas.(fun, good money)

Dog Walking

Are you crazy about dogs do you love to play with them, and do you love to walk? Why not make money if this is your passion. There are tons of people that live in apartments and condos and own dogs. A lot of time these people have such busy schedules and don’t or are just to lazy to take their dogs out. They are willing to pay you to do this for them.

You can take one dog at a time or be brave and take out a herd, that’s up to you and your client. Also how your charges run is up tot you, too.

Easiest way to find clients is to advertise in condo, apartment, business, and grocery lobbies. This is another job I recommend being bonded for. Advertise at Vets, dog parks, and pet stores.

“Taxi Service”

Drive a taxi you say? No way I say. I am talking about shuttling people from place to place. There are so many elderly people that have no means of getting to a doctor’s appointment, the hairdresser, grocery store, etc. They would rather pay a person driving a private car that they can chat with than to call a cab or ride a bus. Also offering to take people to and from the airport is a smart thing to offer. This job can become overwhelming if you don’t keep to a schedule. People prefer being dropped off and picked up at the door instead of having to wait for a shuttle bus, RTD, or a cab. With this job you can make as much in tips as you charge. I have a friend I set up in this type business and she has hired two more helper drivers to keep up and is making serious money.

This job takes someone who loves driving, talking and helping people. You can multi-task this job by dropping off one client and going to get another while that one is being taken care of. Remember with this job the more personal you make the more you will make.

A great place to find clients would be a local church, office buildings, or senior center.(interesting job)

Delivery Service

Almost like the above except you are moving things in your vehicle instead of people. You could do grocery shopping for a shut in, pick up take out, things from the cleaners, and so on. I have a neighbor that started a delivery of take out food business. He picked ten restaurant in his area and talked to them about letting him promote through them with flyers. He now has 10 drivers delivering and he just coordinates the whole thing form his home.

This is a great job for anyone who likes to drive and doesn’t have a problem talking to others. Your charges can be hourly, by mileage or a combo of both.

House Watcher

Do you like being in other people’s houses and don’t mind sleeping in different environments? This would work for you. It entails you either going by daily when the client is away and watering plants, gardens, animals, picking up mail, and whatever they need done. In some instances you are asked to actually stay at the home while they are gone. This is a very adventurous job and needs to be taken on only if you are able to be alone in strange places. It is not a job where you can take your girlfriend/boyfriend, husband/wife, child or friend with you to. Talk to travel agents about letting you advertise with them. And this is another job that you would need to be bonded.(fun job)

House/Animal Sitter

This is a job that requires sitting. You go to someone’s house and wait for the cable man, furnace fixer, appliance repair man, etc. Some people even want someone to stay with their pet a day or two a week. There are many people that would pay you to stay there and watch or wait so they can get things fixed or their pets can get attention and still be able to go to work. They don’t want to use their precious comp time to wait and this is good for you especially if you love to read, knit, or watch TV. Not many jobs where you can get paid to do things you like. Also a job that needs you to be bonded. This business takes minimal investment.

Antique/Collectible Seller

Do you have an eye for antiques and collectibles? Do you have many items you would like to sell? This is a fun and interesting to make money. You can either sell the items on online auctions, sell at flea markets, rent space in an antique co-op booth, or go all out and rent a building to sell your precious items. It just depends on how much you have and how deep you want to get into it.

It can be a very
lucrative business if you know about how to buy low enough to be able to sell for a profit. This is a business that requires a good eye and a lot of knowledge. This business takes a bit more investment but is not as physical as some of the jobs listed above. Best bet for getting an inventory together is yard sales, flea markets, and second-hand stores. Get a bunch of things together before starting and remember to keep buying!

Clean-outs

What is a clean out you ask? Simple, it involves cleaning out garages, attics, houses, etc. People hate to do this! But if you find going through tons of stuff as fun this is for you. And the big benefit is sometimes you find something great! You get paid per job or per hour and a lot of times you’ll find things you can resell or you can also recycle things for extra money.

There are many elderly, people moving, and spring cleaners also Realtors and landlords that are in need of the house clean out service. If you live in a area where there are a lot of foreclosures this can turn into a goldmine because the banks will usually pay well to get these places back on the market asap.

This job takes a strong back, will and sometimes a strong stomach, but you can make a ton. This job works best with a truck and a trailer but you can always rent a dumpster to be brought to the location (just remember to add the rental price into the total you charge.) (Good money in this!)

Daycare/Preschool

Do you love kids, have kids of your own, a big child friendly space and have patience galore? This is the business for you! Many people prefer the homey type daycare to the big business ones.

This is a great business if you have kids of your own and need to make some money but either can’t afford daycare or don’t want to put your kids in one. Check with your friends and family to see if they or their friends are in need of this service. I watched many fiends kids so I could stay home with my own and enjoyed it immensely. You can even micro manage this job by watching only a certain age group. You can also make it a lets play and have fun place. Or do creative things like learning things, doing art, etc. and making it into a preschool with

shorter hours and setting it up for certain age groups at specific times.

Many states require a license and have other rules involving running a daycare in your home so be sure to check all this out before starting this up. The lady that did my girls preschool made a good living, had her summers free and was loved by all who used her, thus bringing her in more kids each year. (never a dull moment)

Catering

Do you love to cook and create great foods? Do people tell you your food tastes exceptional? This is something you can start and run from your own kitchen! You don’t need anything extra to start this job and you can write off your income tax part of your home, cooking utensils, public service, appliances, car, and many more things.

To start make up some samples and take them to local businesses in office buildings, or go to trade shows for weddings, home & garden, etc and show off your goodies. This is a business where samples will work better than flyers. Offer snacks for meetings, sack lunches, or full out catering for parties, receptions, luncheons, and so on.

This job is not one that is always going to work on your time because you need to deliver your at the times they are needed, but you can get help from someone you trust and build their pay into the cost of the job.

Take a cue from Monica on the show Friends. Start up is nothing, because you probably have it all already.(gets creative juices flowing)

Cake Decorating

Can you decorate cakes or have you always wanted to?
Here is something for you to turn into your own business. I would suggest that before you start this business you should take a class or two on decorating to learn the secrets. The price you pay for these classes will be a deduction when you start your business.

For clients to start off approach family and friends. Most people would rather pay someone they know and trust for a “personal” cake than a store. Make sure to give them business cards to set by the cake for advertisement. If you want to expand into wedding cakes make sure you sign up for the wedding trade shows, show your products to planners, and see if you can advertise a boutiques.

This business is not as easy to make your own hours as the others because they involve getting cakes to places at specific times you can always pay someone as an assistant to do deliveries you can’t just build that cost into the cake.

Pooper Scooper Person

This sounds like a crappy job and it is but it’s a money maker. No one likes to clean up after their pets so they will pay you to do it for you. I know it sounds like a horrible job but hear that after awhile you become de-sensitized and smell nothing. You don’t have to touch anything and just need a rake and shovel. You can wear your mp3 player while working and get loads of exercise. I don’t know how else to pitch this one, except I have been told people pay bundles to have their poop picked up. So at least give it a try!

To promote this one go to vet’s, pet stores, dog parks and hand out cards and in papers.( Just remember...Good money)
money.

Wedding/Occasion Singer

Is your singing voice amazing? Do you love to sing? Then go forth and sing! This is a great business and can be fun, too. You can set up to sing at weddings and parties or if you want to be creative become a mobile singer. Then you can deliver balloons, flowers, or whatever while using those magnificent chords.

This business can be promoted with flyers at party stores, wedding shows, karaoke places, or start an online website. If you are good and promote yourself well you could even get to travel. (My cousin did this and made enough to pay for college)

Meal Cooker/Meal Preparer

Are you good at making meals and enjoy doing it? This is a relatively new business area and could become potently a huge one. Many people work and don’t want to or don’t care to make dinner. So they go though a drive-thru and grab some fast food wishing they could have a real meal. That is where this business comes in! You make those good to eat wholesome meals for these people. You offer ones cooked for a bit more or ones that they just need to pop in their oven.

You can do a delivery service or make them come to you. Offer a weekly menu with a couple choices or a certain meal each day. You can make up many meals at one and freeze them. There is so much potential to this business that it could become one where you will need to hire help!

Advertise in business newspapers, lobbies of office buildings, churches, and leave business cards everywhere.
(Two friends are doing this and now it is huge)

Presser/Steamer

This is a hot one! But if you love to press or steam women out there will love you and be willing to pay you to do it for them or their corporate husband. Cleaners charge an arm and a leg while leaving scorch marks, creases where they don’t belong, and missing buttons. The human touch is always better. Office lobbies, bulletin boards, and word of mouth will promote this business.

Window Washer

This is a great business and you don’t ever have to go up high. There are so many businesses, apartments, and even houses that pay to have their windows cleaned. I know one woman who started washing a couple of tire stores and now does over 25! It takes a long brush, a pail, window cleaner, and along handled squeegee. There are classes you can take to learn the art of window washing, but that would be a decision you could make. It could be a fun and exciting way to make a living. To drum up business go around and give free demonstrations.

Voice/Instrument Teacher

Are you a good singer or play instruments well? Then this is a good way to make a living. Kids in any type of music are always trying to get better. And many of them want to get to the highest level, or they are told by their teachers that they must take outside lessons to get to a higher group. I know my daughter is in that position and when I checked into a voice teacher the prices are quite high! And what’s more they all seem to have a waiting list!

This is one that I would promote through schools, theaters, and churches.

Truck Caterer

These are the people that have a catering type truck that they drive to businesses with prepared food to sell the workers for snacks and lunches. I have a friend that makes her own sandwiches, burritos, cookies, etc to sell and has a huge following. But if you don’t want to be that involved you can buy pre-packaged food, it sells well also. You have to invest in a truck or van, but it is a tax write-off and a small business loan can help you out here. You then need to set up a route, and take flyers to each business to let them know what you will sell, prices and a time you will be there. It can be a fun business and profitable, too

Event Planner

I have a cousin that plans weddings, proms, birthdays, etc. Are you good at planning and setting things up? Then you can do this too. There a so many people out there that can’t or won’t take the time to plan these type of things, you would be amazed! She started with her daughters prom, when no other parents wanted to help. From there she was approached by many parents and teachers for help planning things for them, and hence her business started!

You can approach this with flyers, business cards at places where people go for wedding things. Or you can do shows such as Home and Garden, Kid Expo, Wedding Expo, etc. This is a fun job because you get to dream through others eyes and spend money that is not your own. Being a person that has a calm persona also is a big help.

Ebayer For Others

Do you eBay and do it well? Do you have time to keep up with actions you are running and answer questions in a timely fashion? Do people always ask you to help them learn to EBay or sell things for them? This is a great job for you, then. I was always having people ask me for this help and I finally decided to make it a business. I will give lessons on how to eBay but now I charge a fee for the lesson and any additional help I charge for, too. If they just want to have me eBay their things I charge an up front fee and also take a 10% cut from anything that gets sold. I make them write their own descriptions and set their own prices. I will take pictures for them, which I also charge a fee for. If they want me to take care of the mailing part, I charge for my time. The one thing I don’t do when I eBay other’s things is list it under my account. This is because if someone sells something that is not as they represent it or they decide to take care of the mailing part and it doesn’t get out in time, I am not getting the bad feedback.

You can make a great amount of money doing this but I do suggest that you make up some type of contract that you have them sign for each thing you sell and have them pay their fess up front.. That protects you from getting stiffed, stuck with things, or whatever else comes about.

You can promote this through family, friends, churches, and

so on. You can do this with only people you know or if you know what you are doing you can offer you services to anyone.

Tow Truck Driver

This is a bigger investment type job in the beginning BUT it will make you a good living. This is a more physical type job than the ones above. There is certain ways to hook up cars and the best way to learn this business would be to work for someone for a bit. Once you learn, though you need to invest in a tow truck of your own because why make someone else rich? Your best advertisement is your business name and phone number on your truck.

You need to realize that this job will require nights and weekends to make the bucks but it only takes a few hours and your done. If you want a real challenge and a good income this is what you want to invest in. This business will also take extra insurance and check with your state because they will tell you anything else that is required. This is one business that you would want to check into a small business loan.

Vending

This is another of the bigger investment type jobs and this is a very physical if you are looking at doing soda pop. But you can invest in the gum type machines instead. Either can bring you a hefty income depending on location and the amount equipment you have out. Small gum machines are something that won’t take a lot of time, don’t have a lot of repairs needed usually someone gets a coin stuck.

The bigger machines take more time, can have a few more problems at times but yield a better income. You can go out and find locations and machines on your own, you can go through a vending placement service, or you can find venders that are selling in the paper.

This is a great business but you need to put back 50% of what you make to cover restocking and any repairs that come along. You need to fix things right away in this business or else you make no money and you loss clients.

This is my main business and I get a lot of clients this way. This business takes a friendly, conscientious, strong person who is willing to work all types of weather. You can work this business with a truck, van, or trailer and some coolers to get started. A small business loan would be a big help for this one, too. This job can make you a good living as long as you remember to make your clients happy.

There should be enough diversity and information above for you to go out and become a small business person and with time and perseverance you can turn your business into a big one. Just remember you have to jump in with two feet and don’t get discouraged.

If you need to make more than you are when you start up or need to have someway to get insurance, you can always work somewhere part time until your business gets so big you have to devote full time to it. There are many insurances that are set up for small businesses so just check in the yellow pages.

Please don’t forget to check with the Small Business Bureau in your State Government index and order a packet to start your own business.

It is a big step to go out on your own but if you really want to work for yourself you can do it!

10 Amazing Ways to Find Your Dream Job

The North American job market has experienced a net loss of its high-paying industrial jobs due to a combination of outsourcing, bankruptcies and illegal employment practices employed by many North American corporations and businesses. These business practices appear at least for now to continue for many more years to come with no end in sight. This is very bad news for the hardworking people that depend on these jobs that are being dissolved at record-breaking paces, so that the rich shareholders and executives can only get richer no matter whom they have to hurt along the way.

While the high-paying industrial and manufacturing job market seems to be disappearing right before our very eyes, there is a ray of hope still left to land that dream job that you have always desired. The only thing, it's not going to be easy and a matter-of-fact, it's going to require some legwork on the jobseeker's part to locate the job, apply for the job and finally to get the job. Sadly, finding a good paying job in a country where quality jobs are disappearing and being replaced with sub-par service market jobs that usually only pay above minimum wage and offer little to no health benefits requires the jobseeker to rethink their employment searching tactics. Hopefully this article will help regenerate a new found hope of landing your dream job and if not, then possibility landing a good job that will keep you from calling a cardboard box “Home”.

Internet Employment Agencies

There are literally hundreds of thousands of new jobs being posted on the Internet by businesses everyday that are seeking quality employees to fill both low-wage jobs and high-wage or salaried jobs within their companies. While there are thousands of job employment websites popping up all over the Internet is really is a waste of valuable time trying to find and use them all. Most companies and corporations in North America rely on the most highly visible and visited job search engines such as: Hotjobs, Monster, Careerbuilder and Craigslist to find quality applicants to solve their employment needs.

Local Newspapers

For decades, the local newspapers have been a useful vehicle for local companies to use to solve their employment needs. Newspapers are still an important and somewhat successful way for companies to find quality employment applicants in the Internet-age, however jobseekers are not buying as many newspapers to locate employment much anymore and this is causing employers to find new ways to solve their employment problems. Still jobseekers should continue to use their local newspapers to locate their dream job, because some companies still only rely on newspapers to fill new employment opportunities that are available in their companies.

State Unemployment Agencies

In the United States there are governmental state unemployment agencies that are provided to aid each state's unemployed populations from issuing food stamp benefits, unemployment checks and to aid in the re-employment of their unemployed workforce. These state agencies maintain an up-to-date list of local companies and out-of-state companies seeking to fill new employment opportunities that are available within their companies.

It is not uncommon for many large, well-known corporations to solely use these state agencies to seek out quality qualified job applicants through these state operated programs. Even through many such companies are not listed in the standard public job listings that is generally provided by these state agencies doesn't mean that these types of companies and corporations are not currently hiring at any given time. Many times the state agencies will only share this type of information with jobseekers who inquire about these job opportunities by directly asking the state employed agents about the opportunities. So, it is important to ask and you may discover an employment opportunity that pays well and that you are qualified to do.

Internet Employment Opportunities

There are hundreds if not thousands of Internet based companies on the web and around the world that use only their websites to advertise internal employment opportunities within their companies. Not all of these employment opportunities are technical jobs, but many of these opportunities are geared towards the technically skilled applicant since they are in many cases solely Internet companies. However, some of the employment opportunities are marketing, customer service and data-entry positions that many jobseekers are qualified to do and these employment opportunities can be located and applied for through the company's website.

Internet Social Networking

Social networks such as Myspace and Facebook have become excellent places on the Internet to look for new employment opportunities, because companies understand and realize that there is potentially thousands of jobseekers that are members of these social networking meeting destinations. It makes good business sense to employ these social networks to advertise the company's employment needs and potentially find the quality job applicants that the company desires to employ, so to resolve the company's employment void.

A Friend of A Friend Networking

One of the tried and true methods of finding employment is to network through friends and family, because many times some of the best employment opportunities are found through the people that the jobseeker already knows on a personal level. Some companies even prefer to hire a person based solely on whom they know and on the information that their friends and family tells the employer about the jobseeker. Usually this is the case if the company that the jobseeker is currently seeking to be employed by already employs the friend or family member.

Search The Obituaries

Located in most of the major metropolitan newspapers there is a section that is used to make announcements of local deaths in the area. Now this job seeking tactic maybe regarded by some people as morbid, but if a working aged person dies, then the company that the individual had been employed by, will be left in the position to fill a newly available employment position left empty by the deceased. Many obituaries announcements will give the name, age and family members who are left behind by the deceased and where the deceased had been employed prior to their death. This is the information that the jobseeker needs to have to be able to locate the employer and apply for the recent job opening, just try to avoid mentioning the deceased during the application and interviewing process.

Place Your Own Help Wanted Ad

An excellent employment seeking tactic is to place your own help wanted ad in your local newspaper, Internet classifies message boards, blog and/or website. Making a public announcement to your community regarding what type of employment you are seeking can potentially attract the attention of employers seeking the skill set that the jobseeker has to offer to their company.

Telemarketing Your Job Search

It is a cold hard fact, that about 70% of all employment opportunities are never publicly announced or advertised and most of these jobs are either left unfilled or filled by jobseekers that are known by someone already working for the company. One of the most productive methods (albeit time-consuming) is to call local businesses using the yellow pages or blue pages phonebook to identify the businesses that have employment opportunities currently available. After these businesses are identified, then the jobseeker can email, fax or mail their job resume' to those employers that are hiring.

Distribute Personalized Business Cards

Have a couple of hundred personalized business cards printed with your name, phone number and/or email address and a short message saying something like “I am a hairstylist and I am available to work for your company - call me” or “I am looking for employment in the education field - Call me if you are hiring”. Pass out these business cards to anyone that your believe may be in the position to help you land a job or put you in contact with someone who is looking to hire someone like you. Potentially, everyone that a person comes in contact with on given day could be the one who either knows someone that might hire you and they may be in a position to hire you themselves, so it is very important to try not to judge someone if they are not dressed well or doesn't appear to be anyone important, because even those important people do dress down every once in a while.
