Salable Titles and Titles That Sell

If you're writing a book and you want that book to sell you have to come up with original and salable titles.

Go to Amazon.com or to your local bookstore or local library and study the titles of the bestselling books.

Write down these titles. These should be the bestsellers in the genre that you're interested in writing in.

Certainly you cannot judge a book by its cover or by its title nevertheless, titles help to sell books.

What is it about these titles that help to sell the book?

Most titles are short titles, for example. Very few titles are long. Sometimes titles have a short title, then an explanatory sentence.

Like Water for Chocolate, for example, the book and the movie.

Why is the title interesting? Salable? First it's an intriguing title. What does this mean? Like Water for Chocolate? What's this? Sometimes the title is interesting because of our curiosity as readers?

If you're writing a how to book, what is it that you want the reader to know that makes them want to read this type of book. What does this book do for them?

Let's say the title of this article becomes a how to book:

How to Write Titles That Sell

	Or another how to book

	How to Sell

Many writers are interested in selling their books. A book on writing salable titles that help them to sell their books certainly might find many readers. There are many professional and amateurs writers that might purchase this book.

How to Sell in general might have more customers, because there are many business people who want to learn how to sell, many students of books, many sales reps. This is a general titles that would probably have many more buyers.

What is it your reader wants, needs, desires? These are factors in selling, including in selling books.

Non-fiction books are generally more salable than fiction because non-fiction books general answer better the needs of more people.

Fiction that sells generally also answers the needs of more people for knowledge, for information. What types of fiction title sell? What types of fiction works sell better? Mystery? Romance? Detective Fiction? Science Fiction?

And among these types of fiction, what titles are salable? What makes them salable?

Sometimes the works of authors sell because the authors are excellent and selling themselves. Their publishers and publicity people sell the author along with the work. Many people read the books and the books are reasonably well-written. Sometimes they are better than the works of other authors, sometimes they are just as good, but we like the author, admire the author and we buy the book.

Many celebrity authors are best-sellers not so much because they are greater writers, along many celebrities are excellent writers. Many of us buy their works because they have already sold themselves as celebrities. We like them. Many people know them. If they write a book, they already have an audience. Celebrity writers usually sell more books also. Some sell because they are truly great writers. Some sell because they are good are selling themselves. Some sell because their titles are salable titles.

There are many non-fiction books we buy even if we don't know the author because the books have information for us that we want to know and we read and find this is excellent information for us. Many online writers we read for information, decide its excellent information, we keep reading these writers even though we don't personally know. Many we easily recognize as experts. Some have credentials that we recognize. Some we just determine their credentials from their writing, and the type of expert or non-expert advice they provide.

Salable titles help to sell books just like the quality of the texts and the salable authors.

Publishers and professional writers know that all of these factors help to sell books.

American Idol for example continues to be a TV phenomenon. We find when deciding upon talent, these judges are looking for all of the qualities of salability that we have mentioned.

We hear a lot of they like the people. They like certain people. Truthfully talent should be enough, but in the entertainment world, these people have to sell themselves as well as their talent, so of course, they want likable therefore salable talent. Their singing must be great, their personality salable, and the whole package of an American Idol.

This is true of books that often become bestsellers--the title and the cover, the quality of the writing itself, and if possible, the salability of the author.

Most authors, of course, prefer the work rather than the personality of the writer interfering with the readers perception of the work. Certainly, nevertheless everything is a factor in marketability, and especially as literature becomes more and more "commercial" that other elements of this society. We continue to have intellectual, noncommercial writings, and we should continue to have these, along with the salable writings. But when considering sales and writings, then think salable titles along with the other contributions to market value, including a marketable and salable text.

Start a Literary Agency Representing Web Content

We find very few literary agents who handle web content. This is certainly an area in which if you are interested in representing writers you can offer to represent their web content.

You can represent their web content to online markets, and/or you can offer to represent their web content for reprinting in local, national, and international print newspapers and magazines.

Of course, you must research the markets and potential markets. You can also contact these potential markets, showing them web content samples, and asking if they would be interested in becoming a reprint market for web content writings. If you have a number of interested markets, then you can offer your expertise as an agent to represent web content to these print markets.

As a literary agency representing web content, you would be among the first such literary agencies.

There are many excellent web content writers who would probably no doubt be interested in being your clients, especially in the international reprint market.

Advertise at classified ads websites such as Pif Magazine and various freelance writers websites.

You should also list your web content agency at writers.net.

As other literary agencies, you should not charge an upfront fee, but charge a commission if you sell the work.

Make sure that you have sufficient interested markets before offering your agency to the public.

You might start working privately with a few writers first to find out if you are right for this type of work, if you can sell the works, and if you have sufficient market interest, then if so you can offer to represent other clients. You can also limit your clients to the number of writers that you are able to work with.

Again, you should not charge upfront fees. If you think that a client web content needs to be rewritten or re-edited, then ask them to rewrite or re-edit. Those who purchase the web content for the print market, might ask again for a rewriting for print, and/or they might agree to publish directly as web content.

You can also set up a website including the type of web content available to the reprint market. Continue to research new reprint markets for web content. A brochure of web content writing samples can also be sent to potential clients.

Information Marketing

If you are a writer you are an information marketer. You sell and resell information.

When you write articles, you are making use of information. When you sell or resell those articles, you are selling and reselling information.

If you use the articles in books and/or adapt those articles as books and ebooks and sell and resell those works you are again selling and reselling information.

If you allows others to sell or resell your articles or books by signing up with Clickbank and/or giving them the resell or reprint rights then again you and your affiliates are selling and reselling information.

You of course must rewrite to improve how this information in marketed. You must rewrite to update this information.

However, you are an information marketer.

The product that you are selling is information, and this information is put into a salable form--an article, an ebook, a book, a CD, a CD-Rom.

Information can be made into video, audio, software. These are also forms of marketing information.

If you are an idea person, good at working with ideas, good at thinking, good at putting ideas into writing, into video, into audio, into software, then information marketing is your type of marketing.

Once you have the information in this form, then you can place your articles on websites that buy web content, you can distribute your books and ebooks via your own websites, via affiliate websites, via distributors. You can self-publish and/or publish with commercial presses.

If you like working with ideas, and information, and like keeping up-to-date information, like doing research, like this type of work, and especially like selling digital information products to products like candy or toys or VMC satellite TVs, although you like writing about and reviewing these products, including writing about the stores and companies that sell these products, then consider becoming an information marketer.

Brand Names and Brand Naming

There are a couple of types of brand names.

Some people themselves are the brand name: Oprah, Donald, Martha. We know these people when you talk business. They themselves are the brand name. Therefore, like with other brand names, their brand names must stand for quality, must stand for a certain personality and a certain style, must make you want to buy their products.

Or you can select a brand name that is independent of the person. Anybody can sell the product. You try to get a quality name that people associate with quality, with business ethics, with a good reputation, and you try to maintain consistent quality and a consistent good reputation. The brand name is independent of the person.

Sometimes people identify themselves with the brand name even though it is independent of them.

You must decide if you want the brand name to be associated with yourself, your name, and/or if independent of yourself. You also must decide if you want to associate yourself with your brand name and/or simply an independent brand.

People know the name of the beverage for example, but not the person who is the inventor and/or owner of that beverage. The beverage is a quality beverage, people want to buy the beverage, you have sales and marketing reps who are experts, but you yourself are only the inventor--that is, you come up with a recipe for a new type of beverage.

You can also market the new type of beverage to another company who now becomes the owner, with the understanding that you receive royalties, but you are not at all identified with the product, because the product has a new owner.

All of these are marketing strategies that you consider when you come up with brand names and brand naming.

If you're a celebrity and think your name would help to sell your product, if your name is identified with quality and truthworthiness, then make use of your name. Also, if you have the type of personality that makes people like you and want to buy your products, in addition to the quality and trustworthiness.

If your name is not necessarily going to help sell a product, then use another name, a name associated with quality and truthworthiness that is independent of you. This is if you don't necessarily have a salable personality, but nevertheless have a quality and great product.

For example, you find some authors that are not necessarily the best writers but have salable and winning personalities that helps them to market their works. These works can be reasonably well-written. Then there are other authors who might be better writers but they don't have the salable and winning personalities that attract readers to their books. Readers might read their works and buy their works, but they are not going to have the popular audiences, many of whom are attracted not just to writing but, as with many people, personality types.

Often great writing and a winning personality are combined for marketable works. This is the same with any brand. For most writers, unless they write in a pen name or company name, their name is their brand. For that reason, many writers try to maintain a good name and a good reputation. Sometimes, because of the nature of being a writer, and the obligations that go with that, this is not always possible, as writers must often write about matters that people are not going to like them. But this is something for writers and business people to consider.

If their "brand name" good enough for people to continue with them and their "product." Sometimes their brand name is good enough, sometimes it's not good enough. Also, is there brand name well-established enough. Does your personal name have image loyalty and brand loyalty? Do enough people know you as a person of quality and trustworthiness? Is it easy to discredit you and your "good name" and "good reputation"? If so, then you should select a brand name other than your own name and/or perhaps sell that brand name to a company that is able to maintain it's good name and good reputation.

You can also sell your brand and brand name to another company who can maintain the quality of the product and the product's good name and good reputation. Especially if you're a controversial personality type and you think it's better to have an independent brand, independent of your personality and your controversies. Also, a less controversial person can assume the ownership of a brand, if necessary.

This doesn't of course mean that business people and others should not involve themselves in meaningful controversies. They should do so. However, some brands continue to have public loyalties, others do not. This is the nature of business, as we witness some celebrities involve themselves in controversies and we continue with them, while others it means them their careers and their reputations. Nevertheless, they have to be honorable to their best understanding which is not always the public's best understanding.

A name product can also be an "imaginary name," where there is no real person with that name, it's just a name that personalizes a product. Is there a real Little Debbie, for example? Is the image of Little Debbie, the logo, a real little girl?

In fact, many companies can have several brand--a brand in the owner's name, a brand associated with the owner but independent, and an independent brand, even owned by another company.

For example, Donald Trump could use many of these marketing strategies. Products that his "good name" helps to sell he could include in his name. Products that would be better marketed in a brand not associated with Trump's name, but an independent brand, but with him co-owning royalties, and/or a product sold to another company with another brand name, but again royalties received by Trump. Or perhaps he can invest in another person's brand and/or brand name, but maintained by a Trump company.

With quality products, ethical business practices, a good name and a good reputation in the marketplace you help to create brand name loyalty.

Workshops, Seminars, and Trade Shows

Among the strategies for attracting customers and potential customers, whether to published books or products like toys, candy, or jewelry, there are marketing strategies that include workshops, seminars, and trade shows.

You can have "free" workshops, seminars, and trade shows, where the customers and/or potential customers do not have to pay a fee, but when they attend the workshop, seminar or trade shows free, you include books and products that they might want to buy. For a workshop or seminar, you might make the books required reading, however, there is no fee beyond purchasing the books.

If you have a workshop or seminar in jewelry making, those who attend the workshop or seminar are required to purchase the beads and gems and other jewelry manufacturing tools, but there is no fee to attend the workshop or seminar.

There is no fee to attend your "candy trade show," for example, but people purchase the candy that you and other trade show merchants sell. This would be the same marketing strategy for other types of trade shows--e.g. foods, wines, toys, inventions, etc.

You can also include a small token fee to attend the workshops, seminars, and/or trade shows, with other monies coming from buying the products.

You can also charge fees based upon whether the marketing is business to customer or business to business.

A trade show, for example, might charge businesses a fee to be included in the trade show, but for the potential customers the trade show is free or there is a token fee, but most of the money for the trade show is paid by the businesses to attend the trade show.

This is the same marketing strategy with workshops and seminars that are business to business; you might charge a higher fee than business to customer workshops and seminars, as with consultants who often charge a higher fee with consulting with businesses.

For workshops, seminars and trade shows, make sure that all of your products are quality products. You can have products custom-designed by well-established manufacturing companies or manufacture the quality products yourself, including quality arts and crafts. For books, you can sell your self-publications along with products from established commercial publishers.

How to Find the Right Products to Sell

Are you interested in setting up an online business? Affiliate marketing? Selling your own products?

How do you find the right products to sell?

Make a list of the products that you would like to sell. What types of products are you interested in selling? Also, think ethics. What for you would be ethical products to sell?

If you're a vegan, for example, then only vegan foods you might consider ethical for you to sell.

If you don't believe in gambling, then don't sell casino products.

Then, what types of products do customers want and need? Make a list of these.

Keep a products notebook or journal.

Try to coordinate the types of products you'd like to sell with the types of products that customers want and need.

You can include a questionnaire on your website and/or to potential clients at an advertising forum.

Then try to find the best quality of these products at the best discount prices.

Are any of these products already bestsellers?

So, here you have your products:

Products that you'd like to sell.

Products that your customers or potential customers want and need.

 Ethical products.

Highest quality products at the lowest prices.

These can be original products that you manufacture yourself or hire an experienced manufacturer, like a custom-designed perfume, for example, or a custom-designed toy. Or you can sell grocery products.

When advertising advertise to your ideal customers, those customers who you know want and need your products. You can advertise at classified ads websites, at advertising forums, in print magazines and newspapers, at your own website. You can start your own ezine, advertising yours and other products.

You can also advertise by writing online articles and including in your signature line a note about your products, and/or the website where they can be purchased.

Practice writing your best and most compelling sales literature.

If your products are sold on affiliate networks, then join those affiliate networks, such as Affiliate Showcase, affiliateshowcase.com , then recommend the products and/or the affiliate network to others, recruiting subaffiliates and sales reps.
